Next to Plaza Mayor

Posted Oct 5, 2014
Pros: Great staff. Tries to make guests comfortable.
Cons: Lack of airconditioning.
Location: Plaza Mayor, Mercado de San Miguel, the roadside cafes.
Picturesque and conveniently located. The hostal is close to Plaza Mayor. Lots of eating places nearby. The royal palace is in walking distance and we accessed Sol metro station through Plaza Mayor. We feel we chose a great place to stay.

Great location for Plaza Mayor

Posted Sep 14, 2014
Pros: Location location location & a good price!
Location: Lots of action in the Plaza and plenty of places to eat .Plaza San Miguel indoor market is well worth going to for a selection of foods & drinks .
The room was clean & the sheets & towels were equally clean &changed daily. The bedroom & bathroom were very tiny & the noise from the street at night can be annoying . However, you don't spend much time in your rooms.

Perfect budget hotel, amazing location and service

You couldn't ask for more in a hotel for the price. The hotel is old-fashioned in decor, but it is very clean, comfortable and charming. And the location can't be beat- it overlooks a quaint plaza with tapas bars just behind the busy Plaza Mayor, and just steps to some of the best sights in Madrid. I only had one night here and didn't have a guidebook, but still feel like I got a taste of some of what makes the city great. The hotel's incredibly helpful and kind receptionist ( I wish I remembered his name!) had a lot to do with that- he spent lots of time talking with us, giving recommendations for where to eat, and even calling around to find us the best flamenco show. Our room, 214, had the perfect nook overlooking the plaza, complete with window seats and a table. I only wish we had more time to actually spend in the room, people watching with a bottle of wine! I would highly recommend the Macarena and would definitely stay here again.

Super location

Posted Jun 13, 2014
Pros: It's location and casualness.
Cons: Possibly a hint as to what the hotel is across from so a taxi driver might find it more easily. There is no ground floor sign on the outside of the bu
The Macarena was not easy for our taxi driver to find, but once we got there everything was terrific. It is a casual place, the staff was helpful, it had everything we needed.

Great location in Madrid

Posted Jun 10, 2014 on Hotels.com
The location is unbeatable. You can walk to all the sites you want to see in Madrid as well as to lots of tapas bars. The rooms are small but very clean and open to a balcony. Lots of street noise but not if you close up the window and shutters. Staff is pleasant and always available. Lack of AirCon was not a problem in first week of June; the room stayed cool during the day and nights were cool with a good breeze. I would stay there again because the location is excellent and we were quite comfortable.
