Good location but very noisy at night

Posted Nov 5, 2014
Pros: Location was great, staff were friendly and helpful.
Cons: One of the windows wouldn't open, the light switch needed attention as it seemed to have a loose connection, and the water heating system squeals.
Location: The hotel was centrally located, a few minutes walk from Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, the Mercado de San Miguel and Chocolateria San Gines Café.
The hotel is centrally located near the Puerta del Sol which is both great and a drawback! Being in the centre makes getting to things easy and there are loads of great shops, restaurants, chocolate & churros cafés; and transport links are easy. However the area is also very noisy in the evening even after midnight which makes sleeping difficult! Despite that the hotel was good, the staff welcoming and friendly though not all of them could speak English. They kindly upgraded us (a family of 4) from a 4 bed room to a small apartment in the adjacent building which made the holiday easier as we could choose to eat in or out and gave us more space to spread out and relax, which was great. The rooms were clean, nicely decorated with tiled floors, and we could have fresh towels each day if required. Madrid is a fantastic city, clean, welcoming, beautiful architecture everywhere, wonderful parks, fantastic fountains and statues, palaces, a multitude of art galleries, a bullfighting ring with a fascinating tour, and it is compact, so easily walkable! And the food ..... marvellous!!! We spent 4 days and explored only a fraction - I would recommend Madrid to anyone!!

Location: all of central Madrid in easy walking distance.
incredible location in the heart of Madrid; windows effectively shut out the street noise. 30 second walk to Plaza del Sol. Staff friendly, helpful.

Best place to stay in Madrid!

Posted Oct 10, 2014
The staff was always present to help and answer questions. Arrived early by a lot but the staff accommodate me right away and even upgraded me to a full size room. I was situated near the lobby, which made me feel more safe as I was traveling alone. I think they intentional thought about this and decided to place me there by upgrading me without additional fee. The room was always nicely cleaned. It did not smell like mold and did not have bugs (I mention this because a different Hostal that I'm staying in Barcelona does) The location was superb! I didn't have to take the metro or taxi anywhere because everything was walking distance. It's also very close to museo de jamon, mercado de San Miguel, and Plaza Mayor. Now if I had to pick the worst thing about the stay would only be wifi...no connection in the room. Also the walls are thin so you can hear people in the other room (but not as bad as other places). I had to check out around 5am and the front desk person helped me catch the taxi without me asking for help. What a sweet gentleman! I would definitely stay here again!

Excellent location.

Pros: Location. This is not a Hotel but a hostel. The rooms are very nice in size though the bathrooms are small. There is no noise and the rooms are quiet
Cons: The lighting in the room is on the dimmer side. Other than that, for the price in this location, it is a very good place to stay.
Location: Shopping, eating and spending time in the evening.
Very close to the city Centre of Puerta del Solar. Gran Via is also very close. These are two of the most happening places/ locations in the city where everyone comes to relax and mingle. Lots of restaurants and shopping and night clubs.

Absolutely fabulous!

My mom, myself and my teenage daughter loved staying here for several reasons. 1) The staff were super friendly, happy, helpful and spoke very good English ( which is a bonus of course) 2) The location couldn't be better...everything right outside your door...Puerto del Sol, shops, restuarants...everything! 3) The room was rustic, beautiful and comfortable...I love that this building is old but so well maintained and has two balconies for our room with big doors and shutters and looks out onto the busy street to see life in the lovely city! 4) Price...this place was very good value for money and is not a hostel, but more a hotel. Amazing!

perfect ending to our vacation

The staff was very accommodating. I think the first attendant was Louis...he was very attentive to all our needs. great service! Second attendant insured we got a taxi when the taxi service missed the pick up time - I did not get her name, but she was professional and kept us informed....we were a bit agitated, but the issue was not our staff.

Best location. Stayed there twice, got upgraded to a rooftop apartment. Simple, nothing fancy, but the location is perfect for exploring Madrid. Definitely recommend and will stay there again.
