“Fantastic location”

This hotel is an excellent value. The staff are friendly and helpful. The location is central to the old city, and very close to the metro. The free Wi Fi was helpful.

“Obviously superior”

Intur San Martin is: (a) in a perfect inner-Madrid location, at the heart of the vital Puerta del Sol-Opera neighborhood, yet absolutely removed from all the bustle in a quiet plaza occupied by underground parking and the famous Descalzas Real convent building,(b) within easy walking distance of myriad restaurants and tapas cafes,(c) an elegant, well-maintained building with generous rooms, handsome lounge and dining areas, and (c) a friendly, professional staff. Honestly, not a single gripe.

Area recommendations

The barrio "Madrid de los Austrias" is a convenient and vibrant neighborhood, but often crowded on its main thoroughfares. North of the Calle de Arenal, south of the Gran Via, seems appropriately tame for visitors.

“Intur Madrid”

Hotel Intur Palacio San Martin is an easy walk (200m/ 220 yard) away from metro station Opera. Take Arenal, Calle San Martin to S. Martin Plaza. We stayed 8 nights. Upon arrival we were asked if we wanted a quiet room (overlooking the inside quad or a light room, meaning with big windows on the outside of the building. Our room on the 3rd room was quite large with a king size bed with a good mattress and beautiful linens, which were replaced every other day. Standard amenities such as a flat screen TV, desk with Internet access, and a mini bar with reasonable priced items. Our room was indeed quiet, even with hundreds of people visiting the bars and restaurants in the small streets exiting from the small plaza. Thick walls and double windows take care of that. Good AC made room temperature pleasant. The bathroom had a black marble sink, a full bathtub with shower, toilet and a bidet with almost instant hot and cold water. Sufficient, daily renewed, towels, soap and, shampoos. The breakfast is on the 6th floor. It is luxurious with several different breads and sweet items as well as all sorts of cheeses and cold cuts. Beacon, scrambled eggs, hot links, coffee, thee served at the table, and several fruit juices, milk, yogurts available in this buffet style breakfast. Not always included in the room price for 14 Euro. Centered in the old part of town, one can easily walk to most major buildings, plazas and shopping areas. Taxi to airport E50, metro to airport is E2.50

Old town, a bus tour for E 9 ( seniors) with many off and on stops.

“Satisfied with location and service”

Located in the San Martin square, near most of the locations worth visitng in Madrid. Would not recommend the breakfast at the hotel, there are several locations nearby to eat, for breakfast and other meals, at prices much better than offered witht he hotel breakfast. If you are new to Madrid and have more than a day, do the hop on hop off tour for a day and then figure out the places you want to visit, the Prado museum is one of the top museums in the world if you are looking to see the Velazque';s. Goya's and other Spanish masters

“Great location”

Hotel is in dire need of repair and cleaning. Elevators not working. Very hard to understand were's the 4th star coming from, I would give it only 2.

Area recommendations

I enjoy the old section of Madrid so this area is great and of course the Salamanca neighborhoods (Serrano & Velasquez).

“Definitively will stay again here on my next visit to Madrid”

This was our very first visit to Madrid. We stayed 9 days in the same hotel. Our very good experience of the city was highlighted with our stay in Palacio San Martin. Clean, quiet, comfortable, helpful personnel. Close to everything you need to see and enjoy. There was a construction going on inside the premises. We slept almost every day till noon, yet we didn't hear any noise in the room. Worth every single euro paid. Two thumbs up!

Area recommendations

Plaza Callao, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, Calle Arenal, Palacio Real, any cafeteria around (all are good), La Cibeles, Parque del Retiro, Museo del Prado.

“Great location”

Great location, small rooms, comfortable bed. Breakfast worth it only if you are a big eater in am. We only had cafe and fruit. For $20+ euro can have better on the streets.
