Happy with our stay

Posted May 21, 2014 on Hotels.com
We enjoyed our four nights at the paseo del prado. It was a great value for the price, had a convenient location , and the rooms were a good size. The bathroom had a very modern shower. It was also a pleasant surprise that our room was ready when we arrived from the airport in the early part of the morning. The one issue we had was with the thermostat--it kept going up and down on its own and we didn't know how to fix that. The first day it was super hot in the room but a maid quickly got that taken care of. Definitely recommend!

Pros: Comfortable bed;large by European standards;interesting architectural design & great bath Floor to ceiling mirror is plus or minus depending on you
Cons: More washcloths for U. S. guests.
Location: Couldn't be better
This hotel is within walking distance (5minutes) of the Prado & gardens. Neighborhood is safe upscale and quiet yet with walking distance to nightlife & neighborhoods. Also several go restaurants in area. Wi Fi is god & reliable with additional layer of password protection.

City stay

We wanted a central location to maximise our time in Madrid and this hotel was perfect. It gave us access to all the art galleries just a stroll away . We were able to find places to eat that were full of authentic Spanish flavours and colour and within walking distance. The room was very comfortable with lots of extra design features to make it a fabulous experience.

The hotel was suggested to us by a work colleague from Madrid. It was an excellent choice. We were very impressed with the service provided and the room was very clean. The location was great for lots of museums and parks.

Noisy Hotel

Pros: Thyssen 30 metres away, Prado 50 m., Atocha station 10-12 mins walk. Airport Coach outside Post Office (Correos) on Cibeles Roundabout.
Cons: Ineffectual double-glazing. Eye-watering breakfast prices.
Location: Decent local bars on Calle Jésus, behind hotel, but turn shadier on Huertas - non-Spanish owners/waiters. Don't eat near Reina Sophia museum, ripoffs.
Hustled on arrival to upgrade - for a "quieter" room - but locals eat at 22.00-24.00, then at 02.00 the chairs and tables outside cafés are dragged indoors, before 03.00 when the bins are cleared on the street. My husband (half-Caribbean) pounced on at the lift entrances, obvs. a criminal mastermind and/or terrorist. Hotel stunk of Industrial Vetiver. Lower Huerta area full of 'beaters' trying to get you into their bars.
