Nice hotel near Retiro ParkPosted Jul 12, 2014
Pros: I liked the rain showers, the bed, the down pillows, the Clarins Spa. I liked the reception staff---they were friendly and helpful.
Cons: Hotel needs new carpet (in rooms and common areas)---it looks worn and dirty; the main bar needs new fabric on the walls; lighting is too dark
Location: Quiet location a block away from Retiro Park; easy walk to major museums, shopping along Serrano, Grand Via, and close to Chueca; metro near by too.
Hotel is in a lovely area away from the busy traffic of Madrid, but close enough to all the touristic highlights of the city. Reception super friendly and helpful!

BEAUTIFUL UPSCALE HOTELPosted Jul 8, 2014
GREAT PLACE TO STAY , WOULD STAY AGAIN. WHEN WE ARRIVED AND BASICALLY FELL OUT OF THE SHUTTLE LOOKING A LITTLE UNORGANIZED, I SORTA FELT LIKE I WAS IN A SCENE FROM PRETTY WOMAN, BUT ONCE WE GOT INSIDE ,All WAS WELL. THE POOL IS IN A COURT YARD NOT GOOD FOR SUNBATHING, BUT GOOD FOR A DIP.

Dreadful costly mistake!Posted May 18, 2014
Cons: See above
I travel a lot on business and in fact have spent the last year travelling in high quality and highly rated by Tripadvisor hotels. I wanted to spend 4 days in Madrid with my wife and 4 year old. From the point of check in I thought this might be a mistake. The staff were fairly unfriendly and the guy actually said the hotel was very busy - despite the fact I said I had a reservation and he gave more attention to a local couple who wanted to make a lunch reservation. I found this a common occurrence. The initial impression is clearly of a fading hotel - worn and frayed carpets, decor peeling, etc. The room was small but not unexpected. Three main points of compliant about the stay: If they do not want family bookings when they have a business conference do not take them or let families know. The only day we wanted to use the terrace at lunch time for a coffee we were told we could not due to a function later that day. Note the terrace appearance is not great and the pool is not in use, dirty looking and with old cups lying around. The noise!!, soundproofing is none existent - room 522 can hear everything in the next door room, from conversations, to coughing, and when someone runs water you feel it is in your room. The staff - although they seem to think they work at the Ritz (this hotel does not come close), perhaps they should visit there to see how good staff can be to residents. Snooty, unhelpful and more interested in locals lunching there.

Excellent hotel although not cheapPosted May 10, 2014
Pros: Quiet location, helpful staff
Cons: a lower cost breakfast (euro 25). Opening the swimming pool before 1 June, the outside temp was 30C and a swim would have been great
Location: Walks in the Parque del Buen Retiro, shopping, art galleries,
Had three nights in Madrid in May, hotel was in a quiet location close to a number of metro stations and within 5 minutes of a large park, (Parque del Buen Retiro). Booked a superior room which was very spacious

Location: Excellent location at the Salamanca area, where museums, parks, stores, restaurants, entertainment is readily available.
We have stayed at the Wellington several times, due to their good facilities, very well kept, excellent location, amiable employees. It complies with all the requirements for my wife and me for a pleasant stay in Madrid. Warmly recommended.
