Pros: Location
Cons: More sun beds. Redecoration of all rooms
Our first time at Don Carlos. I am sure that at some point long ago this was a nice hotel. It felt like an old grand hotel renovated cheaply. The rooms were outdated and tired. The beds were not particularly comfortable. One of our rooms smelled very strongly of cigarette smoke. There were not enough sun beds and despite this, they were selling day tickets for non guests to use the facilities which meant that there were even less sun beds for hotel guests. We left our sun beds for lunch and when we came back, our towels were removed and sun beds given to other guests. In what 5* hotels does this happen? The breakfast buffet was also very limited.

What's not to like!

Pros: Everything! Can't fault it.
Cons: Nothing! I would have liked a balcony from my room but they are available on request.
Location: Elveria Restaurant (2 min walk) was a fabulous choice for lunch and change of scenery. Try their Black Sea Bass - to die for and the best sangria eve
Extremely comfortable. Good atmosphere. Fab service from staff. Two good pools - one with access to Nikki Beach. Quite a steep walk down from hotel through beautiful gardens to second pool and beach. Thought I would hate the music playing round the pool in the afternoon but realloy loved it in the end. Non-aggressive staff (unlike Egypt!) round the pool and a blessed relief from the usual incessant Activities Team. This was a beautiful 5* hotel. Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the gardens, beach and sea with a pianist plinky plonking - utterly lovely. Will go again and take husband next time.

customer service amazing, but we stayed in the luxury villas so it was fab, i did not rate the normal hotel rooms at all. staff amazing , if you go book a villa xxx

Nice hotel

A great hotel for our 6 day break. Spotlessly clean with attentive staff. Hotel literature requires men to wear trousers , not shirts to dinner. However they do not seem to adhere to this. Not worth paying the extra for a sea view as no balcony to enjoy view from. Breakfast buffet excellent. Would definitely stay there again.

Just spent a week with my husband. Good resort, beautiful grounds with wonderful gardens, choice of pools or beach. Cool beach club, free for hotel guests. Good choice of restaurant food for lunch, limited in the evening to Bahia (over complicated menu) and Thai (which we did not try). Needs a relaxed buffet style offer. However good choice of dining places are nearby. The staff are extremely helpful and professional at all times. Would go back, the only disapointment for us was that the superior rooms do not have a balcony, however the sea view is lovely from the window. Bedroom style functional if slightly formal, bathroom quite small.Huge beds!!!

Great hotel shame about the Beach Club

€150 euros for a cabana which includes champagne, as we did not want any champagne we were offered 6 small waters instead I firstly didn't feel that was a very fair swap. Not once did a member of the beach club team come over unprompted and ask if we wanted any drinks or food we had to find them. I just feel the price didn't represent the service. If u dared to sit on another bed they would be over very promptly asking for €150. The main hotel, reception, room, bfast, hair salon, spa was excellent. beach club really let the hotel down for us. Where as the previous day at Nikki Beach the service was faultless.

Okay 5-star hotell men inte mer

Pros: Pooler, närhet till stranden, trevlig personal (utom vissa i baren), trevlig liten park ner till stranden.
Cons: Rummens (och hotellets i övrigt) standard, bättre concierge, större och "lyxigare" frukostbuffé.
Hotellet låg som förväntat ca. en mil från Marbella men hade en del trevliga restauranger på promenadavstånd. Pooler och närheten till stranden bra. Det jag saknade var en påläst "concierge" som visste vilka restauranger att rekommendera. Den person som fanns var väldigt ung och verkade inte kunna mer än vi... Har definitivt bott på många bättre 5-stjärniga hotell och kommer nog att bo på något annat i Marbella nästa gång.

4 Night Stay

Pros: The Garden leading down to the pool at the beach very well kept.
Cons: The Bar during the evening seems to need some sort of organising.
Location: We only chilled at the pool so cannot comment of this
We had a short break found Don Carlos to be a very nice hotel the only problem we could find was the bar during the evening seemed a bit chaos with getting drinks if it was quite busy the staff seemed under stress and not very happy but would recommend it to friends as it was a lovely hotel.
