Disappointed

Posted May 17, 2014
Pros: location
Location: Right next to hotel is a brand new hotel "newtown inn'' with a great restaurant on ground floor!
The room was not cleaned after previous guests, sheet and pillow-case where dirty! They promised us to serve breakfast 15 min earlier then usual so we can get the bus to the airport that runs on schedule, when i came up for breakfast at assigned time it was not ready!!! And the guy at front desk had a look at his face like he didn't know we arrange breakfast at this time...(7:15am) The cook was making food too long and we missed the airport shuttle bus :( But the most unpleasant thing happened when i left a small package for my friend at the front desk, they opened it and throw away right after i checked out and left the hotel...! I did not expect this from hotel that worth me 122$ per night after all taxes!(for 2 adults and 1 baby) I hope my review will prevent such an experience for maldivien travelers!

Beware and be prepared for a sub-paar room!

Pros: Nothing
Cons: A lot. This is a basic- locally run operation that could use a lot of work.
Location: Nothing! It's on the island with the airport and this is clearly not somewhere you'd want to stay if you're looking to experience the Maldives.
Disgusting room condition. The room had a horrible smell, the bathroom sink leaked and created a huge puddle in the entire bathroom and the mosquito situation was out of control. Also be mindful that there's no elevator- if you're handicap or injured. A very shady 'locally' run operation. If you're looking for a place to stay before transferring to your resort, be ready to leave first thing in the morning because I'm sure you won't want to stay longer than needed.

Thank you for your comments following your recent stay at Hulhumale Inn and I am sorry that your experience was less than desired. We were not aware of the leak in your bathroom which was discovered on your departure and actions have been taken to resolve this. The blocked pipe from the basin no doubt accounted for the leak, smell and mosquitos. The team will be disappointed to learn of your comments, however, they are valued in order that appropriate action and training can be given.

comfortable, friendly staff, near to the beach.

Everyone in the hotel were super nice and friendly. I felt welcome right after i made my booking when the operations manager, Soba emailed me and was very helpful in attending to my requests and questions. Soba and her colleagues were very helpful and organised our snorkeling and sandbank visit through the company, Secret Paradise. They served western and Maldivian breakfast at their rooftop terrace, the person who served our bfast was also very nice..and they had real apple juice too, not the cordial drink. The room was clean and had all the basic necessities to make our stay comfortable. The hotel is also within walking distance to the beach and restaurants/shops/cafe. I would definitely suggest this place to stay if you are looking for an affordable option in Maldives, and if your main focus is to do water activities ie snorkeling, diving, fishing, as the rates are much cheaper compared to the resorts and you also get to experience the Maldivian lifestyle. Also, if you are looking for some place quiet and have more space and trees, Hulhumale is the place rather than Male city, which is quite small and crammed. If you do want to go to Male city for a visit, it is only about 2USD for the ferry ride from Hulhumale. As a whole, my husband and I had a wonderful and happy time at Hulhumale Inn.

An acceptable hotel, definitely of the third world

Posted Mar 4, 2014
Pros: The staff, the location. The availability of adapter plugs for my computer and iPad. Fairly good wifi.
Cons: Room maintenance. I'd have liked a lift but it might be impracticable to add one to quite a small building.
Location: Swimming is obviously possible in the lagoon, no doubt snorkelling too. There are many dive shops close by, some between the hotel and the restaurant.
The hotel is quite close to the airport (less than 5 miles) and reachable by taxi/car. The hotel is located maybe 100 yards from the beach, which has some coral sand, a large saltwater pool in the lagoon and some palms. There is a restaurant opposite the beach with a very large menu and very cheap prices. I felt no need to look for another. Most visitors to the Maldives go to resorts but I wasn't interested in doing that on a short visit. I did try to book a scenic flight but there was none available in my few days. They are only available when the seaplanes to the resorts are not full. My room door would initially neither latch nor lock but, in two tries, they got the lock working. No other real hassles with the room, though at about 15 feet by 10 I would not describe it as spacious. I'd recommend against the submarine trip if you have done something similar around living reefs but those sharing my visit seemed very pleased with the large numbers of not very colourful fish. There is a local bus to the ferry terminal - very cheap, as is the ferry. The islands hereabouts are very small. Male island is the local 'city' and has some mildly interesting buildings. Also a very active harbour. I enjoyed my short visit.

Thank you for your comments, it is disappointing that you do not expand in order to assist us in understanding what you felt was 'unpleasant'. We do not advertise that we have views as it is only the Deluxe Rooms that provide city views across the developing island of Hulhumale, whilst unfortunately non of the standard rooms provide a view.

Small hotel yet fantastic

Posted Dec 27, 2013
Pros: Near airport and value for money
Cons: Not that I can think of. Everything is fine
Location: Not sure bcs I only stayed there for 1 night
1. Hotel room: not the most expensive but kept clean. But for the price paid, the room given is more than adequate. It is great actually. 2. Hotel staff: helpful and friendly. 3. Food: we only had 1 breakfast there. But it is good and satisfying. 4. Location: near airport. So it is very suitable for those who just use Male as a transit point to the islands. So all in all this is a very good hotel.

Great Place in heart of Hulhumale

Posted Dec 18, 2013
Pros: cheap and very comfortable and central for Hulhumale
Location: Central Hulhumale…really a transit area for Male airport. But Good to see real bustling Maldives without the extreme urban crush of Male.
Really comfortable place to stay in the heart of Hulhumale where they can set up any trips or water-sports wanted. Superb value for money.

Great overnight stay

Posted Aug 4, 2013
Pros: Clean and new and refreshing
Cons: Probably the area we were in
Location: Rubbish on the road but hotel was great
This hotel far exceeded our expectations. Although located in a fairly average part of town the hotel itself was excellent. Very clean, staff very helpful, breakfast lovely, rooms small but comfortable, all you need for a quick overnight stay. Would def stay here again.

Convenient and comfortable stay

Posted Jun 5, 2013
Hulhumale Inn serves its purpose perfectly - it is a transit hotel that is minutes away from the airport. Customer service is excellent; staff is polite and extremely helpful. Ruth, director of sales, runs the place, and is very knowledgeable about Maldives. She is a great source of information on visiting other islands, arranging tours, and general local logistical concerns/issues. Hotel is very clean, with basic amenities - but you definitely get what you pay for (plus great customer service). Note that the island is very new, so there is a lot of work going on, and during the day you will hear some of the construction-related noise.
