Beautiful resort & amazing staff!

Posted Jun 21, 2014
Pros: Everything!
Cons: Perhaps add some more evening entertainment for the guests experiencing jetlag but does not want to stay retreat to their rooms to watch tv :)
It goes without saying that the resort is going to be amazing! Set in the midst of endless turquoise water with lush greenery floating in the wind. But what really defined this experience for me is the attention to detail of every single staff member we encountered during our 6 day stay at Shangri-La Maldives. They are the ones that will push your holidays from good to exceptional. Thank you everyone at Shangri-La Maldives for making our honeymoon an unforgettable experience. 2 thumbs up all the way!

Nice hotel but horrible experience

Posted May 7, 2014
Pros: thought it is a 5 star gotel with good facilities
Cons: improve their sea activities, reduce their food price.
Recently i stay in Shangri-la Maldives. When i arrived Male the domestic plane delay for about an hour. the receiving by Hotel staff was nice however the nightmare just started. first the sknoring was not a good experince. it was so wavy with rain. i was so worry about the wave and current and ask to return to boat half way. another disappointment was the parasailing. the boat spoilt half way and we are force to turn back. the boast was not able to repair for the next 3 days till the day we leave. the Dophine trip was also an disappointed one. we return without seeing any dophine. the hotel still chrage us with 50% discount if we decide to go again. i turned that down and i don't to fool myself again. The aircon in my Villa (front side) was not working. lucky i have the back air-con to support. The foods there was very expensive/ there was a barbecue dinner which cost us USD 110++ per head. it just does not worth that ad the taste are not that fantastic. finally when we are ready to go back. i was waiting at the breakfast place for the speed boat pick up. a staff that checking on all passenge was checking all guest. i take this opportunity to retunre the wireless phone and guess what she told me? pls return to the reception place!!! i was on my way to the ferry point and will need to detour to the reception place. i then return the phone to the ferry terminal staff and no problem at all. Overal a bad experience to my first trip to Maldive.

Beautiful island the way been designed, specially the sun set time I love the view and the location, special dinner was amazing, sports activities, dolphin trip and the night fishing I enjoyed most. Maldive’s people are very kind with full respect.

Had the best time ever

You cannot ask for a better hotel,it is a bit further but its so worth it. Its a large resort which means there's more to do and more and better facilities, we never got bored for a sec. The resort is beautiful, we got the water villa and its spotless clean and pure gorgeous, the room is huge. There are quite a lot of diving spots in this atoll. Apparently the dolphin cruise is fab, we didn't go but as we take the boat out for a dive we saw like 50 dolphins jumping and swimming around us its fabulous. The only negatives i have are : the internal flight wait for us was 3.5hrs which was so long to wait although you are waiting in a nice lounge with food/air con/ wifi. And that i feel that more of the activities on the schedule should be free. Finally make sure you get a massage, its really good.

Shangri-La indeed

Ah, Shangri-La. Not even James Hilton could not have foreshadowed the Hong Kong-based hotel group's delightful first foray into the Maldives. Rooms at the resort, available in beachside, treetop, and overwater flavors, are spacious and well-appointed, with contemporary furnishings and touches. By Maldivian resort standards, Villingili is a large island and each guest is provided a bicycle to get around—a necessity for all but the most centrally located units. Biking around the gorgeous property was such a pleasure that we frequently took a longer route than necessary to explore the island's lush jungle, historic sites, and plethora of amenities. Unlike many resort destinations, dining at Villingili is a highlight. Breakfast featured, in addition to western favorites, a handmade Chinese noodle soup station, Maldivian and Indian specialties, and more. In the evening, two additional options are available: a shoreline fine dining restaurant, and Dr. Ali's, which allows diners to order from three distinct menus: Indian, Arabian, and South China Sea. Guests at Villingili are left wanting for very little to keep themselves busy. If the turquoise blue waters aren't enough of a distraction, guests can entertain themselves with a diverse water sports program, well-run dive operation, luxurious spa, and the country's only resort golf course.

Beautiful and relaxing - pure luxury

An amazing hotel and beautiful location. It has pretty much the whole island to itself and the hotel is spread out so you get bikes or have buggies to come pick you up to go to the beach, pool, restaurants etc.
