Decent bang for the buck

Friendly and helpful staff. Clean rooms. Good location. No A/C in the room so I'm not sure how comfortable it would be during the hottest summer days. Both floor and ceiling fans available though. Good value for a budget hotel.

Great location

Posted Jul 29, 2013 on Hotels.com
We had a twin room for 6 nights and chose the hotel by it's price. We were expecting that since it was the cheapest offer for our stay in July,we might have the best hotel. But the location was perfect, close to the beach, the bus routes and the stores. Our balcony had a lovely view of the sea.The room was clean and nice and big,and even if the roof fan wasn't working, the hotel had fixed a big fan for us which did the trick. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Astra Hostel

Posted Jun 14, 2013 on Hotels.com
Ok - we went for 9 days to Malta and needed somewhere for night 1 and 9 as we had booked an apartment for the week. The Astra provided a bed for the two nights. This is not a hotel in the normal sense its like a hostel to 'get your head down' clean with friendly staff but god the rooms are out of the 1950s. For example our errr ensuite had a sliding door which jammed behind the bed and the partner had to let out the person using it lol!! OK its cheap would I use it again yes for the one night - Clean smells of bleach - did the job for us

Comfortable but noisy

Posted May 24, 2013
Pros: Maltese floors and doors and the sea view.
Cons: Loud music.
Location: Great location on the Sliema promenade.
Very nice recently refurbished hotel. They have kept a lot of maltese characteristics such as the tiled floors and wooden doors. It was very comfortable and I was upgraded to a seaview room which was lovely. The only disadvantage (and to most people a very great one) was that the hotel is over a bar and on one night the music went on until 4.00 a.m.!! I had to use my earplugs for three out of four nights - not good.

Good hotel if on a budget

Posted May 22, 2013
Pros: Spacious rooms
Cons: Noise of karaoke at hotel bar
Location: Overlooking the sea. Excellent central location with good access to transport and to shipping centres
The staff were courteous and the hotel was basic but clean. The only minus point was the karaoke night Thursday when the racket went on to the early hours of the morning.

Clean and friendly, no fuss hotel

We have fond memories of the Astra. It was Clean in a good location. The rooms are large but lack of air con can make the night time uncofortable! The rooms could do with a little attention to make them more appealing. The breakfast is poor.

We really enjoyed our stay here. We had a balcony room on the 4th floor which had a great view and just enough space for three people. Breakfast was nice and filled us up for the day, it's so hot there that its worth adding breakfast to your bill to save going outside and getting hot! They provided us with extra fans because of the heat which really helped us at night and our sheets and room were cleaned every day. The cleaners and reception staff were very approachable and friendly. I would stay there again next time and would recommend to friends and family.

The hotel is in a great location, only 15 min from Valletta by bus. You can take 3 busses to get into town and the bus stop is right across the hotel. The hotel has been renovated partly. The outside is newly painted and the roof terrace was done up. There are chairs and tables to sit and lounge chairs to lay out in the sun. The rooms are spacious and clean. The bathroom is very clean. Most rooms have balconies. The ones to the side street are quieter whereas the ones with sea view are also on the big road. There are restaurants all around and shops are also only a 5min walk. I would definitely stay here again.

Astra Hotel

The hotel is in a great location. It is right on the water and depending on your room you can face the sea. We were on the first floor which was a big mistake. There is NO air conditioning and the noise from the bar below is extremely loud. In Malta they party to wee hours of the morning, so if you don't care about sleeping this hotel works fine. There is no one at the front desk after midnight and they don't come back to the desk until 7:00am. So if you need a wake up call, forget it, use your phone.

Astra Hotel

Posted Sep 26, 2011 on Hotels.com
Whilst appreciating the cleanliness of the hotel and helpful and friendly staff, the Astra is more like a hostel than a three star hotel. Rooms are very basic and beds are uncomfortable. There is no air conditioning and because of the very noisy location it is not possible to open a window night - this made the heat unbearable at times at night.
