“Comfortable hotel right on the Promenade along the beach”

The hotel was very nice and the room was fine. It was kept very neat and clean and anything I asked for was quickly given. The staff was really helpful and the breakfast buffet was very good with two kinds of yogurt, two kinds of eggs, tasty sliced ham and cheese and very nice bread and rolls. I didn't care for their dinner buffet since there were so many nearby places that served good food for a good price. The roof pool didn't look appealing but the swimming in the Mediterranean was great. The staff and guests (mostly European) were friendly and overall the place was great!!

“Howard Johnson Diplomat - Sliema”

We stayed in November 2007 at the hotel. Excellent week. Staff were very helpful and the food was extremely good. We stayed on a B & B basis but used the restaurant for two of the eveing meals also. Would definately stay there again if we ever re-visit Malta

“Shame about the weather”

When we arrived at the hotel and got out of the taxi we were almost blown over by the storm force winds and the windows looked as if they had not been cleaned for about 10 years along with all the other buildings in Sliema but it was all due to an anticyclone off Africa which lasted 2 days.As soon as it had blown itself out everything was cleaned and we saw the hotel as it should be. Very friendly staff, good location, good food and those 1950's buses pass every few mins to all over the island.

“Great location”

Overall a very good hotel and helpful staff. Good room, good selection of food for breakfast. Would not recommend evening meals at the hotel as the food from the help yourself buffet was spoilt through being left too long in the warming pans.

“Great location”

My best friend and I were concerned about previous reviews but on arrival we were welcomed. Initially we were sent to the wrong room but was most satisfied when transfered to the front sea view we had payed for. The view was amazing. The room was very clean but in need of refurbishment, however this did not concern us as we only slept and washed there as so much to see on the island. linen and towels changed daily and air con a blessing as was 39 degrees. The rooftop pool was really nice and the morning buffet breakfast had a good selection. would recommend this hotel as a base to explore the island.

“Good Value”

Having read other reviews we were concerned about what we'd find at the Diplomat. Sure it's not UK 4 Star standard but it's clean comfortable and the A/C worked well. The decor is tired and it could do with a tidy up but that is only cosmetic. The breakfasts weren't brilliant and we didn't sample the dinners as the dining room is a grim underground affair but there are plenty of good affordable eating places nearby. If you are the kind of person who just wants to spend their whole holiday by the hotel pool and eat in house then this hotel probably won't suit you. But, if you want to explore the area this is a great base, it's only 15 mins walk from the ferry to Valletta and on a bus route. It is perfect as a place just to sleep at, but watch out for Mozzies!

“Good value, pleasant environment, oh for some decent bread at breakfast”

We enjoyed our stay. the value was good and the beds comfortable. We didn't like the dining room being underground. We only eat a small breakfast but long for decent bread and rolls. The bread was white sliced and the rolls disappointing. That left nothing nice to look forward to at the meal. The staff were helpful and the location is good.

“Lovely staff, clean but scruffy rooms”

Lovely and very helpful staff. Brilliant breakfast with a lot of choice. Ideally situated for main attractions and sea front. Easy flat walking to town. Bedrooms spotless but scruffy. Main function rooms looked as if they had been newly renovated. Pool just being revamped but very early in season, anticipated opening pool in May.

“My rating”

The hotel is good value for money, although it is a bit dated it is nice and clean. Where the hotel is situated is a good location, come out of the hotel and turn left you can walk along the boardwalk towards St Julian bay – where you’ll find loads of small places to eat and drink. Turn right out of the hotel and you can again find loads of good places to eat and drink – all around a great location out of the action but near it if you want that sort of thing. The hotel breakfast was nothing special but certainly welcomed, to be honest with so much to see and do – who wants to stay in the hotel for anything apart from sleep. One little moan was the only TV channel to watch in English was BBC news ! Clubbing in Malta is not like the UK – the clubs are packed and very little room for dancing, after about 12.30pm all the younger crowd go home and then things do get a little better but not much. Malta is a lovely place to go and ill defiantly be going back soon.

“This hotel is 2/3 not 4 star, we think”

Breakfasts were poor, especially the orange 'juice', disappointing bread and fruit salad and undrinkable coffee (good coffee was available in the lobby bar at a price). (We didn't sample other meals, finding good restaurants outside.) Our shower flooded the floor due to poor plumbing, and pressure was feeble. Reception service was poor until the last 2 days when a very helpful and nice lady was on duty. Hotel location was perfect for rocky beach and buses.
