Lovely roaring firePosted Oct 30, 2013
Pros: Open fire, cosy, nice food, helpful staff who offered to carry bags to room on arrival or car on departure
Cons: Armchair in room. More seating in bar area - tables reserved for evening diners so apart from 4 bar stools there was nowhere to sit & have a drink
Location: Lovely peaceful countryside setting. Small playground virtually outside. Easy drive to Flamingo Land or coast of Scarborough/Whitby
We just wanted a room for the night near Flamingo Land and this fitted the bill although it is 20-21 miles distant not the 12 miles the Expedia website says!? (Maybe that is as the crow flies?) We were one adult and two children so had to make do with a double and single bed, but knew that when we booked. Beds were very comfortable. Room too although very warm during the night even though I did not have the radiators on. Lucky for the bottle of water that was provided when we all woke up hot and thirsty at 1 am. We did not eat there in the evening but it certainly seemed popular and was booked out. We went to the nearby Star Inn (1 minute walk) as its menu appeared more likely to suit children and was a cheaper option. Breakfast (included in the room rate) was great and in addition to full English had options such as parma ham and melon, or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.

Excellent food and quiet locationPosted Aug 26, 2013 on Hotels.com
Agree with lots of Trip Advisor reviews that the food is excellent and worth the money. Hotel is located in a quiet village but handy for surrounding towns, this is definitely a plus if you want quiet at night. The pub is also great with friendly staff and locals. We'd definitely stay there again.

Fantastic all roundPosted Aug 9, 2013 on Hotels.com
When entering on a Tuesday evening you know that a establishment would be good when the bar area waiting for the restaurant is already bustling I spent a night and had an superb quality meal with attentive service which was replicated in the morning for breakfast the ro for the price I paid was also a shining example of what attention to detail can do and had a great nights sleep in tranquil surroundings I have returned and am writing this review now as I am sat in the bar now waiting to be seated for my evening meal tonight highly recommended

Very WelcomingPosted Jul 30, 2013 on Hotels.com
Having read other reviews were happy to stay for one night. Lovely quiet location and the hotel was very much up to the standard expected. We had an evening meal which was excellent quality and though not cheap we thought at around £30 each for 3 courses was worth the money. Nice real ale pub a short walk away and everyone very friendly. The only thing we would have liked was some sort of cooling in the room as it was unfortunately a very warm night and there was not much ventilation in the room. Will happily stay there again if in the area.

this is a really lovely b&b. the environment is beautiful and the food and service really fabulous. Our room was lovely , very stylish and comfortable. slight let down with the mouldy shower tray, but spotless everywhere else. Food was wonderful. will use again

Great Restaurant, dissapointing hotelPosted Apr 29, 2013
Pros: The food and service were outstanding
Cons: No hot water and cramped room
Location: Rural village location
Great food service and wine in the restaurant, however no hot or even warm water for a shower in the evening. Room was very "compact" just ok for one night as somewhere to get your head down. Warm water problem was repeated in the morniong. Memeber of staff did apologise. Great restaurant and would not hesitate to eat there again but would not stay again. I think being able to have a shower when you want one is a basic. No wifi There was a constant hum throughout the night which I think was from the kitchen extract or perhaps a compressor which was disturbing.

Good nights sleep and excellent breakfastPosted Oct 15, 2012
Only stayed one night in the hotel during Pickering War Weekend. I was contacted two days in advance of my arrival by the management and asked if I wanted to dine in the hotel restaurant on the night of my stay which was helpful. Breakfast next morning was excellent and set me up nicely for the day ahead.
