“todoexcelente”

The only problem I had was that my beach towel was taken by somebody while I was at the swimming pool. I had been warned that would cost me $20. When I presented my case, Gina R, manager, and another hotel employee were understanding and did not charge that amount. I would suggest another strategy for keeping the towels safe, such as printing the room number in them or having a person by the pool supervising the security. Also, the buffet line became too large on Saturday. There could be another way of serving meals without having to wait so long for the meal. People were very nice, and the place is beautiful, with tall trees everywhere. The beach is wide and the waves are not so strong. It is a perfect vacation place!

Area recommendations

Leon, Granada, because they are colonial cities.

Go to Montelimar in the dry season, between November and March.

“Won't go back.”

What's so beautiful about this hotel is the beautiful landscaping and swimming pool. The staff was fairly friendly but more friendlier when u gave them tips. The bad part of my stay at the Montelimas was that there is no internet service available in the rooms (only in the lobby), and there was power outage every 15 to 20 minutes not to mention no hot water in the rooms or publi8c restrooms.

“Montilimar Beach Resort”

Very friendly staff but Room was very outdated. No a/c in all of the area restaurants, bathrooms, etc. We enjoyed the pool and outdoor atmosphere. Nice stay overall, I just feel like they are due for an update on the bungalows which is where we stayed.

“Need to improve”

Basically this resort caters to Nicaraguans. T o appeal to US customers have to learn a lot. No language skills at fromt desk room service or anywhere for that matter. Getting in out of hotel grounds was like getting out prison. On checking in was given a $20.00 card for use of pool towels didn't use and could not find card on checkout, Front desk wanted to charge $50.00. for lost card very rude when compliaining.

“Awesome Honeymoon!”

This resort is located on the shore of a beautiful rain forest. If you love being around nature, you will really enjoy this resort. I felt like I was in an episode of National Geographic the whole time I was there. The beach waves were a bit rough and the water looks murky, but that is mostly because it is a volcanic island. The pools were great and very clean. The main hall buffet was one of the best I've ever had; the food was fresh and the menu changed everyday. The resort also served decent alcohol; and had a pretty tasty mixed drink menu. The resort is also very family friendly but with ample areas for quiet and relaxation. Although Nicaragua is not exactly known as a popular vacation destination yet; it truly is a beautiful and lush country that is not given enough credit. It is a very safe and stable country and was worth every penny spent on the trip.

Area recommendations

Make sure to go to Managua and Catalina lagoon; Catalina lagoon is a beautiful photo op on a clear day. The nearby volcanos are also a pretty popular tourist destination and are a sight to see.

Getting around

Make friends with your taxi driver at your airport; he can serve as your tour guide for the duration of your trip. You can also haggle prices with your driver. The average fee from the airport to the hotel is about $60- $70, but again, you can haggle prices especially if you use the same driver. We had an awesome driver named Delbis who was very personable, and gave us guided tours where ever we went. Keep in mind that the driver's prices only include transportation to and from. Additional entry costs and expenses are your responsibility. American money is accepted everywhere so there is no need to convert currency.

“The Only All-Inclusive Around”

Enjoyed the village set up of the hotel, in that you had your own "street" with rows of two-family houses, complete with porch and hammock set up. The food was in a good variety, which was important for someone who does not eat beef or pork. We were able to find alternatives that fit our eating habits. The weekends definitely were more crowded as locals usually purchased day passes. Despite a line at times when entering the dining room, we were seated very quickly. Only downsides were the language barrier. Those on staff who spoke English knew very little. The beach was beautiful but the waves are a bit rough. Also, we booked an excursion but it wasn't explained properly that the fee was ONLY for securing a driver and everything else was out of pocket. Wound up not carrying enough cash and was unable to go on a boat tour of one of the nearby islands as a result. Also expect market place tour guides to ask for a tip for their troubles. Understandable in hindsight but wish that was explained beforehand. Overall, still a great getaway for a relaxing vacation

“Perfect beachfront getaway, All the people that worked there were super friendly”

Beautiful pool , beautiful beach, everything perfect, secluded , the people who ran buffet were totally friendly and helpful always , the cleaning lady was so helpful , answering our questions and giving us a heads up on everthing our room was perfectly clean and comfotable, we asked for a cottage at checkin and price was the same , get cottage! close to beach!

“Montelinar is not the same as many years ago”

I had been in Barcelo Montelimar many times but this was the worst stay. Montelimar is not the same as many years ago. Meals and drinks are not prepared with good quality.

Traveler's tip

This is the only all inclusive resort in Nicaragua but the quality is not good. There are better beaches in the south part of the country that investors should work to develop better hotels compared to Montelimar
