Beware booking through Expedia

Posted Sep 13, 2014
So my wife and I made a booking well in advance through Expedia for a double bed room (as in not a twin bed room). All confirmed. But on arrival we are told that they have 'overbooked' the doubles and so we have to have a twin. The duty manager explains that they only acknowledge a room type as a "request" if made through a 3rd party such as Expedia. To guarantee a room type you have to book direct. This appears to make Expedia customers 2nd rate guests? I could also make a fuss about the tired state of the room. having no tea/coffee making items in the room, the water stains on the ceiling tiles, the gaffer tape holding together the corridor carpet. It was only a bed for the night after visiting the Lowry Theatre but we won't be staying at the Copthorne again.

Pros: Everything
Cons: Price of breakfast
Location: Meet friends for a evening out in Manchester
Arrived early evening, we were meet at reception by a smiling young lady who informed we had been upgraded , nice surprise. Our room on the third floor was clean and quiet. We went down to the bar to meet some friends from Manchester, the bar man was very helpful and brought the drinks over to our table. We found the whole experience very pleasant and will be using this hotel again. If this is the standard of the Copthorne chain of hotels they will be the top of our list 10 out of 10

Nice hotel but looking tired

Posted Sep 1, 2014
Pros: Staff very friendly, free parking, 2 for 1 breakfast and our room rate was excellent value for money
Cons: Looking a bit tired, needs new carpets and a coat of paint. Ground floor room, very warm as radiator was on, strange for August, so room was stuffy
Location: Right on Salford Quays so pleasant walks around the Quays and the Lowry Outlet centre. Man Utd is close by and the city is 10mins by tram.

Pros: Friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant was also very pleasant.
Cons: Decor a little dated but clean and comfortable.
Location: The canals, Old Trafford cricket ground and Manchester United football stadium. Manchester downtown easily accessible by public transport.
Excellent experience. Staff very helpful. Hotel is conveniently placed for such attractions as Old Trafford and Media City. Tansport links to the city are easy to access and convenient.

Hotel was in a nice area of Salford

Posted Aug 26, 2014
Pros: The hotel staff, and the service they provided was excellent, and it was in a very nice area.
Cons: CLEANLINESS
The hotel staff were very helpful, and front of house ie reception, bar, and restaurant were great. My problem has to be with the cleanliness of the room we stayed in. The ceiling tile as we walked into to the room was half out, the room was full of cobwebs, crumbs and dust around and underneath the television. However the bathroom was AWFUL there was hair in the bath, mould round the bath and up the wall, the shower curtain was covered in lime scale and was very grubby, and I am not sure what was behind the taps of the bath but it wasn't pleasant. There were also tiles and sealant missing behind the door and round the bath, were cobwebs and general dirt and grime were insitue. I was very disappointed and wouldn't recommend this hotel to family or friends as I feel basic cleanliness is very important.

Theatre trip

Posted Aug 25, 2014
Pros: everything
Cons: hard to fault
Location: Ideal for theatre, shopping and Old Trafford
Stayed at the Copthorne to see War Horse at the Lowry (excellent show). Free parking - everything in walking distance. Frequent stayers at this hotel, would not want to stay anywhere else in this area. Difficult to fault. Great room, super shower and large breakfast. Completely recommended.

Disappointment

Dated hotel, room in need of some minor repairs. noisy heating system without any in room. Booked this hotel in preference after a good experience at Sheffield Copthorne but this was not the same quality

Considering the parking fees art Media City, the free parking here makes great sense

Nice location close to the docks

Posted Aug 10, 2014
Pros: Location/cleanliness/food
Cons: The only niggle was the door security card needed to be jiggled about for it to work
Location: Great location, near to the docks, watersports centre, lowry and restuarants/bars
Was very pleasant. I Live only 7 miles away but booked as we are regular open water swimmers and could see a show and swim in the morning. Lovely staff, very clean, breakfast was excellent-Give your staff a commendation!
