pretty goodPosted Apr 21, 2014
Pros: > felt like a standard 'holiday inn express' experience > location
Cons: a bit more attention to detail regarding the remodeling, such as some rust in the doorway of the washroom, and not being able to open the windows.
stayed here 3 nights and it was a pretty good experience. rooms were all remodeled in the past couple years so there were no issues there. the location is like 3-5 minutes away from the train station so its not too bad of a walk, and its central enough to all the nightlife and shopping spots as well. What was weird was the 'double room' was two single beds that were pushed together, to make it look like one giant bed.

Excellent central locationPosted Apr 6, 2014
Pros: Location, availability of on-site parking, tea/coffee facilities in room, excellent breakfast.
Cons: It's time the bathroom had a refurb.
Location: Great central location - catch the bus or tram to anywhere from right outside.
My wife and I stayed in the Mercure for two nights on a short visit to Manchester. We chose it because of its central location, plus availability of parking and, very importantly for us, tea/coffee facilities in the room! The staff were without fail very pleasant and helpful. Our room overlooked Piccadilly Gardens, central Manchester's transport hub, but despite this we were not unduly disturbed by buses coming and going or trams hooting as they approached the station under our window. We booked a deal that included buffet breakfast, and this was excellent. I appreciate a bit of local culture in hotel breakfasts, and was not disappointed to see fried bread on the stand! One slight criticism is that the bathroom was a little tired, but I suppose that's only to be expected in a busy city centre hotel. We shall certainly stay here again when we go back to Manchester.

Pros: Clean rooms, central location
Cons: Better trained rection staff. Someone on duty in the entrance lobby. The reception is on the 1st floor.
Location: Very central with lots of restaurants in the vicinity.
The room was clean and well maintained. I was there for one night on business. Arrived tired and wanting a quick check in as my next appointment was due within the hour. There had been a mix up with my booking leading to the room being booked twice and I couldn't understand how that had happened. The check in person was impatient, lacked understanding and became rude and dismissive when I asked that the hotel help me sort the problem out. The manager when shown the email I had received from the Mercure that had caused the problem was slightly more helpful but his attitude could also use improvement. He also seemed impatient even though it was clear the hotels booking dept had confirmed an unnecessary booking. However, the money was reimbursed quickly by the hotel a couple of days later and an apology received. Not recommended for business trips but provably great for a night out in manchester.

Cons: Need more elevators.. it can be hard to get to some floors
Location: Downtown Manchester. About 10 minute walk to Piccadilly Station. Very convenient :)
Fantastic location on Piccadilly area in Manchester. The hotel is nice. A little bit old, but service is very good. Rooms are a bit dated, but very clean.

Fantastic city centre location!Posted Mar 15, 2014
Stayed here for 1 night with my boyfriend, couldn't believe our luck when we arrived and discovered how close we were to everything. Great hotel for a great price and fantastic location. Plenty shops, bars and restaurants nearby. Had a great time at the Mercure Hotel!

Average but ComfortablePosted Mar 12, 2014
Cons: Bathrooms could use major overhall,
Location: Large tourism info place on ground floor, street entrance with lots of info, maps, souveniers, etc
You have to take the elevator upstairs to the Lobby to check in. The room was just okay - nothing fancy, but quite acceptable. Outdated bathroom, but everything worked just fine. Thin walls - during the day we could hear people talking in the next room - but seemed to be quiet enough at night. Pretty good location, easy to walk everywhere.

DisappointingPosted Mar 10, 2014
Pros: Helpful staff
Cons: vegetarian breakfasts. Overpriced. TV that works.
Location: Good central location.
Although the staff were on the whole extremely polite and helpful I was disappointed with the room which was very small. The TV channels did not all work (couldn't reliably get BBC). I was told vegetarian sausages would be included in breakfast but when I got to breakfast there were none, I had to wait for them to be cooked specially by which time I had eaten the eggs! When the veggie sausages came they were horrible - potato with bits of grated carrot in. A meat substitute would have been better. It would also be better to tell vegetarians to pre-order their food if they are not going to have it there. There was only white sliced or brown bread, no wholemeal or rye or sourdough. Nasty jam/marmalade. One of my eggs was partly raw. One of my potatoes was black (not burned but diseased). Given how much they were charging for this breakfast it was poor.

Good hotel in a central locationPosted Mar 2, 2014
Pros: It's location sold it for my friend and I first found the hotel that stands there in 2003 and have stayed there quite a few times since.
Cons: Decor slightly, a little dated now.
Location: It is close to canal street for a good night out and all of the shops located centrally are within walking distance.
I haven't stayed at the hotel since it was the Ramada. With it now being the mecure I thought they may have done a refurb or at least have fleshed the paint work up, they didn't. However, all the facilities were of a good standard and everything was spotlessly clean if a little dated but not enough to write home about. Good enjoyable stay.
