“Not Fancy But Very Good Value”
Check in at the Salem, NH Red Roof Inn was quick and easy. I was pleased that they asked for photo ID to verify against my credit card. There was ample parking within sight of my 2nd floor room. Access to the 2nd floor was good; steps at each end and the middle. No elevators, but ground floor rooms are readily available for those who may have problems negotiating stairs. The rooms are simply furnished but very functional. It had a nice L shaped desk with a good work light, the sink and large mirror were along the back wall of the room, with the bathtub/shower and toilet in a seperate room. There were very practical amenities; refigerator, microwave, safe, and coffee maker. Curtains blocked light very effectively for good sleeping. The room was very clean and neat, and the bathroom/toilet area was one of the cleanest I have seen in lodgings of any price range in more than 45 years of travel world-wide. On the down side, the exhaust fan in the bathroom/toilet area was very loud, possibly enough to disturb the occupants in the next room. The bed and linens were also clean, and had plenty of pillows, but the mattress was like sleeping on a lighly padded sheet of plywood; not firm, just hard. The motel had easy access to the interstate highway but not so close that traffic noise was detectable. Lots of eating choices, from cheap to high end and shopping nearby and lots of local attractions reachable by major local roads. Very good value; I would stay there again.
