“middle of a slum”
Tis hotel is located in a slum, garbage on the streets, hookers on the corner and constant notice from the street. in the room there is a small and noisy window aircon that could not cool the room. The bed was like a rock and the sheets did not cover the bed. The room was on the second floor in the front and there was constant road noise, you cannot sleep. The only redeeming thing was the staff were polite and understanding.
“Good hotel in a not so good area”
I stayed here twice in the past year, both times to catch the nearby SiKat bus to the ferry for the dive resorts of Puerto Galera. The hotel itself is clean and tastefully decorated. The free breakfast was quite good and the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The elevator is currently under renovation until February and disabled guests will have a hard time getting to the upper floors. If you have a guest visit you they must check out at the desk when you leave. The desk will then call you to make sure that everything is okay. The problem with the hotel is that it is in Ermita, a seedy area. I felt very safe in the hotel, but I did not feel comfortable going out at night in the area around the place. That being said, if you have business in Ermita this would be the place to stay - it's a great value. Because of the horrendous traffic in Manila you should always get a place close to where you're doing business, in my opinion.
“Very Pleased”
Getting married so had to stop in Manila to go the US Embassy. Selected this hotel from others due to proximity to the Embassy (it is literally a 10 minute walk) and the positive reviews. My fiance' and I were both very pleased with the hotel - it was clean, well maintained and up to date. The room we had was comfortable and nicely appointed. Staff was very helpful and pleasant - food was also good. No negatives to mention at all. We were too tired to do much around the hotel - though it is right on the bay - the area around it is ok, basically what I expected for Manila.
“Renovation not yet complete... Problematic!”
The hotel was shut down for a large part of 2011 for renovation and is now open again... perhaps prematurely. We were assigned a room on the fifth floor, and then told we had to use the stairs because the elevator would not be back in service until sometime in 2012. I am certainly in need of all the exercise I can get, so I didn't balk, although I am sure the desk clerk could see the surprise on my face. During our 4-day stay, the fire alarm went off twice, once very early in the morning which really ruined a peaceful night's rest. On a different night, my wife and I woke up to some overpowering lacquer fumes. It turns out they were doing some finish work in the hallways. We had to open our window and turn the AC on high to get the air breathable enough to get back to sleep. We also had to endure the vibration and sound of heavy concrete drilling on a couple of occasions during the daylight hours. Otherwise, the staff was professional, friendly and helpful. The neighborhood is going downhill since our previous stay in February 2011. Lots of street people, beggars, and hoodlum teens that gang up on tourists and then empty their pockets. We were able to fend off one attempted attack on the BayWalk, but the tourists several meters in front of us were victimized in front of our very eyes. We were able to flag down a passing police car during the robbery, and the hoodlums dispersed and fled. It is not likely we will stay at the BestWestern LaCorona in the near future.
“comfortable and quiet”
This was an older hotel on a side street near all the restaurants and entertainment places, about 30 minutes taxi ride from the airport. It was a quiet spacious room on the 5th floor, with comfortable twin beds and a well appointed bathroom. The internet connection did not work from the room, but there was an internet cafe off the breakfast room for a small fee for an hour, to confirm the status of our flights and dash off a couple of e-mails back home. It was a good breakfast with Western and Asian food. We reserved the hotel taxi to the airport for convenience, for the same cost as the airport metered cab and tip. The hotel was due to be renovated the following week.
“Well worth a visit”
If you want to experience the real Manila, then this is the place to go and enjoy the comforts of home at the same time. I will go back sometime in the future. Just don't get fooled by the airport taxi drivers!!!!!
“Courteous and helpful service resolves temporary effect of jetlag.”
Not realizing there was an additional time change from Tokyo to Manila, I found myself at breakfast at 6 or 6:30AM each morning, wondering why it was minimal lighting and there were no other diners. I was still served the cup of coffee and bread/croissants with fruit. After resetting the time Utility in my IPOD Thurs. night, the jetlag was resolved. I did miss the comfort of a softer, possibly reclining chair while waiting in the room after the day tour of Manila, amongst the reminder of Typhoon warnings on the news and from tour people. With the straight back desk chairs, the traffic noise was best handled with television.
“Comfortable and Cozy”
Pleasant hotel with a very fine staff. Hotel is comfortable, but needs renovation (it will indeed be closed from June to November). Great location; charming staff; good restaurant. Would come back...
“Will stay here again”
Have stayed here several times. Having stayed in many other hotels in the area this is our favorite hotel in Manila, can recommend the suites, great value for money, but book early, Superior rooms are a good second choice. Staff are excellent, breakfast buffet is adequate.
“Good basic hotel starting to show it's age.”
I found the Best Western met my needs and expectations well. The location was convient for what I needed. Not to far from the airport and other places I needed to get to. The hotel room was comfortable and the staff was really good. The included breakfast was what you would expect but a little better than some. Other than just aging, the only think I would complain about was the elevator. It was so old and small that I walked the 4 flights to my room. But I am clostraphobic, so it may not bother others. Some have complained about the area, but I did not feel threatened even on some late night walks. There were a few bars with girls working outside but nothing that made me feel unsafe.
