“Not Impressed”
Bathroom clogged during our stay.
“interesting manila hotel option”
Overall rating for this hotel is exactly right -- 4 1/2 stars. has all the elements of a 5-star, just a little off in some (minor) regards. (there are only 2 real 5-star hotels in manila -- the Pen and the Shangrila Makati). The Sofitel's rooms are attractive and well maintained. And service and food are both good. But what makes this place special (or problematic) is location. It is pretty close to the airport and right on the water and built so as to screen out your views of manila. Beautiful pool and grounds facing the water. I think this is only real resort hotel in manila. Flip side of the location is that you are pretty isolated -- no shops or restaurants nearby, and with manila traffic it can take a long time to get anywhere. So if you are looking for a great place for a romantic weekend or to take the kids or maybe a place for a business conference away from the crush of manila -- this is a great option.
“Nice place to relax”
Extremely friendly staff.... the spa was great. Made my business trip very relaxing.
“Overly rated”
This hotel is overly rated but I guess different guests have different expectations in hotel quality & service. I have been to many countries and have stayed at different hotels. I can tell you that for the price I have paid to Sofitel Philippine Plaza compared to what you get back in terms of room amenities is no comparison to the less costly hotels. However I commend the warm & hospitable Filipino hotel staff! They are very warm and friendly. I recently stayed at the Crowne Plaza in China and the quality of their rooms are impeccable! I was expecting better room quality especially from Sofitel Phil. Plaza.
“Gouged”
Anything you want could be had, if you have zero concern about being overcharged. The bay view wonderful, the pool beautiful, the buffet amazing. Found that the rooms were too cold and the ala carte foods just not good. The last straw though was no free airport shuttle. My review might have been better had I not just stayed at the Manila Peninsula a month earlier, which I found equally luxurious without the exorbitant add-on expenses. Examples; a php500 phone card cost php580. At Peninsula, 520. Also, a daily php50 charge automatically added for local charity. To remove it, you have to embarrassingly demur. Nice idea, but I like to pick my own charities. And checking your email will cost you more than you expect, be prepared.
“Best Hotel To Stay In Manila”
Stayed at three hotels during my visit to Manila. Out of all three, overall, I was most pleased with the Sofitel. Comfortable, food was great with a wide selection, pool and fountains are just right, and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The spa was amazing and it was one of the best massages I have ever had. When I do return to Manila, I will definitely be staying only at the Sofitel.
“bad experience”
stayed there during my wedding weekend. Wanted 2300 php for their breakbast buffet, ande 300 php for a glass of pineapple juice, the prices were ridiculous. Elevators were very slow, only half of them were working. Wanted 5000 php for taking pics outside, what a rip-off. Told them i was leaving. There was banging on my hotel walls all night, and they couldnt solve the problem. Will never go there again, dont appreciate getting ripped off at their over-priced facilities.
“France in the Philippines”
Pricey but to be expected from this type of hotel. I think Sofitel pushes the French Conection a bit to far having Philippine staff continuely greeting me in French. The staff are great... The Hotel is onyl a few miles from the airport, Mall of Asia and the water front.... Nice views and a great pool....
“Great Hotel Staff, will book again when I go back. Phenomenom service of staff.”
Got upgrade to VIP and the service was phenomenom even before the upgrade, the hotel staff were excellent. I rate this a FIVE STAR.
“Excellent stay”
Upon arriving at the hotel, my wife had checked in prior to my arrival we received excellent service and the staff was very courteous. The room my wife checked into was not what we reserved, but after inquiring with the front desk, they immediately switched us to what we reserved with no hassles. The view from our room was outstanding, we had views of Manila Bay, City and poolside. Would definitely stay at the Sofitel and recommend this to anyone travelling to Manila.
