"Great location, easy ferry access to downtown SF"
We really enjoyed Tiburon and The Water's Edge Hotel. It was a great way to visit San Francisco, based in the quiet town with easy ferry access to downtown SF. The hotel was great. The waterfront 2nd story deck was a treat that we used pretty much every day for happy hour, a place to eat our lunch, and just to relax before going out for dinner. All in all it was great. We did have a cleanliness issue our first day but the staff took care of it immediately. Our original room was on the first floor with no privacy and was very dark. We asked to be moved up to the 2nd floor and they were able to accommodate us. We got a bundled package with airfare and clearly had the worst pick of rooms at the Hotel, not really a fault of theirs, just a repercussion of a low cost bundle from Expedia. The 2nd floor room we did get was street view, which we actually kind of liked because it's a cool little walking town and it was fun to be in the middle of. The garbage truck doing its thing at 7:15 on consecutive mornings was a drag but again not the end of the world for us. The staff was great, we joined the free wine and cheese happy hour each night and totally enjoyed our 4 days in Tiburon, thanks to the Water's Edge.

The old buildings are horseshoed around old parade grounds facing towards the water. The grounds are made for a quiet getaway, and include a spa retreat (which I did not test out). You can walk to a pier overlooking Alcatraz on the far left, San Fran across the way, and the end of the Golden Gate bridge at your door step. Despite feeling like you are at a spa retreat, there is a beautiful old bar and a lovely restaurant on the grounds, both of which we did enjoy. The restaurant was fabulous (highly recommend the front dining for the view and the piano playing). There were a fair amount of business dinners going on so I would say it could be for private meetings or a romantic getaway. The rooms are individual old NCO army housing and adorable. The bathrooms are modernized but the rest of the place is like going back in time, and cozy and personal. Wifi was free too so you could work in the comfort of your own little living room.

Tucked away in the redwoods just off Mill Valley's town square, the heart of the quaint little town, this little hotel offers a beautifully restful experience at the heart of Marin County and within very easy reach of San Francisco itself. For us it has become a tradition to stay here for our first couple of nights after flying in long distance (inter-continental) to get over the jet-lag. The staff are very hospitable and helpful and you can be guaranteed a genuinely warm welcome and help with any problems.
Mill Valley itself is a wonderful contrast to the hassle and bustle of San Francisco, yet it is only about a ten minute drive north of the Golden Gate Bridge. And it's close to the harbour at Sausalito, with its waterfront restaurants etc (though Sausalito is somewhat 'touristy'), and, just over the hill and an easy drive through the road which winds over the outer slopes of Mount Tamalpais, the Pacific Ocean.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone who appreciates quality.

Friendly staff to greet us. The property is well maintained. We had a large room with ceiling-to-floor windows, a downstairs work and rest area and a very comfortable bed and large bathroom upstairs. Hotel is located on Sausalito's main street and most of the rooms look out on the bay. The hotel also contains Poggi's, a classy restaurant that offers sidewalk seating.

The best thing about Inn Marin is also the worst: it's right off the highway and, it's right off the highway. Darling little cottage-like rooms in a row, beautiful soap, shampoo, etc in nice wall dispensers (much more efficient), unbelievably clean, comfortable beds, WOOD floors!!! An old place that has been gorgeously redone. I wish the pool opened earlier.

The Inn is in "downtown" Fairfax, adjacent to the movie theater and a bar. Due to flight cancellations from winter weather conditions on the East Coast I ended up at the Inn for 5 days instead of 2 as planned, so I got a pretty good feel for the place. Fortunately business was slow due to a recent spate of bad weather on the West Coast so I could just continue in my room (#5), which was located on the back side of the property. I found the room very comfortable, with a gas log fire place to take the chill off the room when returning in the evening, a nice complement to the room's HVAC unit. Bathroom was modern with a Jacuzzi tub (which I didn't use) and all very attractive in appearance with a vaulted ceiling. Detail work was impressive with high end honey-comb blinds in the windows, although the carpet was a bit lumpy, albeit basically in good shape. Rooms open onto an exterior landing and are accessed via a rather narrow and unattractive stairway near the parking garage. The continental breakfast is minimal, consisting of a selection of various kinds of breads, sweet rolls, coffee, tea, juice, and cereal, squeezed into a corner of an already very small office space, but very homey and on par with what I make do with at home. I have a return visit already planned and recommend the Inn for anyone looking for accommodations in this neck of the woods. I experienced none of the noise issues from the bar that other reviewers have complained about.
