After spending a complete day at the Marin Fair, it was nice to return to quiet, clean, and nicely furnished room for the night. I still had more to see in San Francisco (Fillmore Jazz Festival) and it was nice to be completely rested for this event. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again when I need a place in San Rafael. Thank you to the owner, good job.

Clean big rooms in a neighborhood

Posted Jun 14, 2014
Pros: I believe this is a family run business. They seemed to care about your stay. Recommeded dining and entertainment options.
Cons: For the location, this was a more than fair price for a weekend night stay
Took Sausalito ferry to San Francisco (15 minute drive). Ate in downtown San Rafael, with lots of options, but good luck parking. Went to Muir Woods, (highly recommend), but be careful driving.

Great location

Posted May 18, 2014
Pros: Room decor - more personal than motel chains. Friendly and helpful staff. Location. Good morning coffee and muffins
Cons: Excellent value for money
Location: Interesting and relatively easy drive to Muir Woods. Civic Building is a must-see if you are interested in architecture. Good healthy food in cafe.
We chose Marin Lodge as we wanted the experience of a traditional style motel close to Marin County Civic Centre, a Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece which is 5 mins drive. Delighted to find that we could easily walk down the hill to a good choice of eateries - 20 mins walk.

This place is great!

Posted Apr 28, 2014
Pros: Clean and new feeling.
Location: Not right off the highway, but so close and only a mile from downtown, good restaurants, etc.
This is a diamond in the rough! It is not right off the highway, but close enough and easy to get to. Our room had been remodeled and was clean, comfortable and inexpensive. Much, much better than other places at this price and higher.

Older Motel but Cozy, Quaint and Comfortable

Posted Mar 22, 2014
Room was very quiet, clean, and arranged nicely. Bed and pillows outstanding--slept really well which is unusual for a first night anywhere. There was only a shower, but this doesn't bother my husband who only uses a shower. Very nice walk-in shower, by the way. In all, it is a nice motel, nicely modernized from its original construction in the 1930s.

Not "luxurious," but economical and very comfy!

Posted Feb 2, 2014
Pros: Clean Comfortable Easy access to 101 Very Affordable Great owner/operators
Cons: Nothing. They are currently adding a new lobby and will shortly serve continental breakfast, so they continue to make terrific improvements. :)
Location: Sausalito and Tiburon are wonderful nearby towns to explore. Wine country is not too far away. Headlands, Golden Gate bridge and San Francisco, too!
I've stayed at the Marin Lodge twice now. I take classes in Sausalito and occasionally need a place to stay rather than making the 250 mile drive home. Marin Lodge is not a luxury hotel... but, for the price it is perfect! The rooms are comfortable and very clean (I love it when I get into bed and the sheets and comforter SMELL CLEAN!!! Here, they do! And, they are all cotton, no slippery, crinkly cheap polyester bed spreads here! Thank you!) The rooms are also equipped with nice flat screen televisions, microwave, fridge and ceiling fans (along with the ability to turn off the heater and room fan that can often keep you awake in an unfamiliar place). The motel offers free wifi and the owner/managers are wonderful, friendly, kind people. If you are looking for "wine country luxury," this is not your place... but, if you are looking for a very comfortable and affordable place to lay your head after a day of exploring or some other activity, Marin Lodge fits the bill perfectly! I will be back time and time again!
