"Unbelievable!"
Absolutely worth the every penny! Loved it! Stayed 4/9/14 - 4/13/14, was not long enough. My husband and I are 38-45 yrs old and have been to many wonderful all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, Jamaica, and the Bahamas but the El Dorado Royale Casitas Suites was by far the best and we will certainly go back! We had the best food you could ever get at an All-Inclusive Resort. Every night we went to a different restaurant and received nothing but the best service and cuisine. We stayed in 2nd level due to it having an infinity pool....Yes, a pool of your own right outside your door! Not all of the buildings have infinity pools on the 2nd floor, the 2 furthest North buildings do. I'm not sure if I am supposed to say this or not, but we got lucky, for once really lucky! Reason is, we booked with Expedia on 2/17/14 and somehow we got the best section for what we found out was a crazy good price. I'm not sure if I'm able to say how much but the other guests in our section were all "members only" and they couldn't believe it was booked through Expedia. No one else in the resort was able to use our amenities like the swim up pool bar. butler service, and beach access so that made it less crowded and great service. Our room was by far the best I have ever stayed. Very spacious, great view, and very CLEAN! Did I tell you about the outdoor shower? I can go on and on, trust me, it's worth every penny!

"Great week on the Riviera Maya"
We returned to the El Dorado/Karisma Resorts for the second year in a row this being our first stay at El Dorado Royale. We went there based off of feedback from other guests we met the year previously at the Seaside Suites resort who had vacationed there in the past. We loved our experience this year at the El Dorado Royale and enjoyed the shorter trip from the airport, the larger resort, more restaurant options, and better pools and nightlife. The facilities are immaculate and the staff is friendly and helpful. The pools at this resort were very nice, clean and well maintained and the restaurants were all very good. The only thing that we found frustrating was the dress code in the restaurants. While we realize the resort is considered a "Gourmet inclusive" perhaps considered more "upscale", the setting is right on the beach and primarily casual yet men were forbidden to wear flip flops in the restaurants and my husband (not being aware of this before packing) had to purchase $100 shoes in the gift shop (or make an unnecessary trip into Playa del Carmen) in order to eat at some of the restaurants (some were more lenient or looked the other way). All in all, the experience was a great one and we would absolutely return.

"Not what I expected...."
The good: Resort is brand new and very nice. A bit of a modern/industrial feel to the buildings and common areas – if you’re into that style, you will love it. Room was the best part of the experience. Very modern design that is still warm and well executed. Room was well-appointed and always perfectly clean. Housekeeping was spot-on and made sure everything was in its proper place. The blah: Food at Generations left a bit to be desired. Had lunch at Chef Market a few times and was unimpressed. I think the occupancy of the resort had something to do with this – I would often be the only table in the restaurant. That said, much of the food on the buffet seemed to have been sitting out for a while. Also, service was unacceptably slow. My drink was almost always empty. This occurred in most of the restaurants I visited. Surprisingly the grill by the pool is probably a better lunch choice. Take advantage of the restaurants at the adjoining El Dorado to spice things up. The ugly: Service was “friendly”, but I never felt like anyone actually cared about taking care of my needs. Staff was filled with excuses and never followed up on concerns. Lots of problems with WiFi, including a new $60/wk charge where they made me "prove" that free wifi was advertised when I booked. There were two days where wifi was completely out for hours at a time. Glad I wasn't paying the $60. Checkout was sloppy and they mixed up my bags with another couples.

Pocket Guide: Maroma, Riviera Maya Luxury Hotels

Between the quite fishing village of Puerto Morelos and the lively international scene in Playa del Carmen lies the Maroma area. Undeveloped white-sand beaches provide a tranquil escape from the crowds, and off-shore reefs offer plenty of interesting terrain for snorkeling.
