Riad Itrane

113, Derb Jamâa Derb Dabachi, Marrakech - Map
"So close, so quiet"
Marrakech was chaotic, noisy, colourful and marvellous. Riad Itrane was, as the advertising says, incredibly close to the main square, but felt a universe away. Great as the bustle was, it was also great to return to a calm place. We noticed that many riads had good reviews, but something that stood out for us with the Itrane was the swimming pool. It's only small, but it was very welcome at the end of extremely hot days of exploring - or even of relaxing on the great roof terrace. The staff members are friendly and efficient and did their job superbly. We had cocktails a couple of times at La Mamounia, which was indulgent, but for a real Marrakech experience (and a much cheaper one) we would always opt for the authenticity of a riad.

Riad Dar Mimouna

"Beautiful riad, perfectly placed"
A friend and I stayed here for 4 nights in early June 2014, and would absolutely recommend the riad and the city to everyone we know (and everyone we don't!). We had the Rabat room (each room is named after a Moroccan city) on the first floor, and it was beautiful! The riad is located in the south-west of the medina, near the Koutoubia minaret (we used it as our point of reference when we went out - you can see it from most places in the city!). It's off the main road, down a lovely twisty alley, which means it's beautifully quiet. It took us less than 10 minutes to walk to Jmaa el Fna, so was really an ideal location for us to make our forays into the bustling square and souks - we knew we could retreat if needed (though we never did!). Fatia and Anis are wonderful, friendly hosts - although we didn't need to ask many questions, they always had an answer, and we know that other guests arranged trips and had their own questions answered too! We loved our time in Marrakech, and in Riad Dar Mimouna, and will most certainly be back!

Riad Al Jana

"Riad amongst the Souks"
Traditional Moroccan Riad located within the Marrakech Souks and close to the main square, Jemma El Fna. The rooms are very comfortable and have fans and air conditioning although the one in our room was a bit noisy. We booked two rooms, one double and one twin room. The twin room was a little on the small side but adequate for our needs. The staff were helpful and friendly, especially Mohammed the manager. He drew us a very useful and accurate map which enabled us to find our way around the Souks and Jemma El Fna. He also arranged pick up for 4 of us from Marrakech airport and arrranged for someone to walk us to our RIAD from the taxi drop off point. Would have been very difficult to find otherwise as vehicles can only go so far into the Souks. As we were delayed by the large ques going through immigration at Marrakech Airport we were late in arriving at the Riad. Although the kitchens were closed, Mohammed still managed to serve us up a meal on arrival. The hotel had a quiet and relaxing atmosphere and a very nice court yard to relax in. There was also a roof area with some seating and shade for guests to use.

"More like a family home rather than a hotel"
I enjoyed my stay there. Very good staff and it's so peaceful and relaxing. The only downside is finding the hotel as it's in a awkward to find location.

Riad Marrakiss

103 Derb Moulay Abdelkader Dabachi, Marrakech - Map
"Great budget riad in the heart of the Medina"
Really recommend this Riad. Good price, it is really located in the heart of the Medina which is what you want if you want a truly Marrakeshy experience. The staff were always very helpful and nice. Rooms were impeccable. Just a few things to bear in mind: they don't provide soap so bring your own (I personally don't carry soap when flying on a budget airline, but this wasn't a problem for us as we bought some around). Also we were told by several local people that the food found in restaurants and the main square lacks spices and is very tasteless compared to home made meals. So we were told to eat in the Riad for a better experience, but this Riad as is small doesn't have a restaurant. Again this wasn't a problem for us because although we were disappointing at first that we were going to miss out in nice Moroccan food it turned out we were out most of the time and far from the hotel at dinner time so ended up eating outside (there are plenty of places to eat as you would imagine).

Riad Al Madina

9 Rue Attarine, Essaouira - Map
"Beautiful riad with a lovely courtyard"
Our family (me, my wife, two daughters 14 and 20, and father -in-law 86) had a lovely week in Essaouira staying in this riad. The roof terrace can be used for relaxing or sunbathing. Friendly staff, a little French goes a long way. The breakfast is simple (bread, pancakes, olives, tomatoes, eggs) but there is a toaster and it was just what we wanted. It is located right in the medina and not far from the port or beach. Just ask at reception if you want to hire bikes.

Riad Les Hibiscus

17-18 Derb Sidi Ben Aissa Dabachi, Marrakech - Map
"Great location, a quiet haven close to the action"
Great, quiet place to stay, very close to souks Very peaceful the staff were great, fresh breakfast of bread/cakes with jam and cheese and beautiful freshly squeezed orange juice If booking via Expedia in pounds be wary that because you have to pay cash at the hotel they base their rates in euros and it they charge at the exchange rate they have at the time - not when you booked. We were charged an extra £5 than when we booked. Difficult to find - maps of the area are very hard to follow when you first arrive and walking around for about 20 minutes we had to give in to one of the dozens of the local people offering to show us the way (at a price)
