“Good, but not great.”

The room that we stayed in was very noisey, we were on the second floor the side where the resturant is. In the summer that part of the hotel sits right next to the next building and their second floor ac units are right next to the bed windows. It was very hard to sleep. I asked for a room change but they did not have one avialble. Otherwise it was a nice hotel, the rooms were kept clean and all the fixtures worked as they should.

Area recommendations
Stayed in Vineyard Haven, brought out own car over ferry. Make sure to book your ferry well in advance, otherwise you will be either renting or mass transit on the island.
Outdoors or beach
Make sure you do the Island Spirit Kayak. Family had a blast.

“First time visit to Martha's Vineyard”

We had a great time. The hotel was convenient to the Woods' Hole ferry and island bus routes which was nice (and a necessity). The hotel was very nice. The staff was courteous and helpful. The room was large, clean and comfortable. It would have been better to have had a view of the ocean. Apparently some of the rooms do, but ours was too low (2nd floor). The restaurant at the hotel was good, not great. The area of MV that the hotel is in (Vineyard Haven) has several art galleries and other nice shops, but other than the hotel restaurant we did not find another sit down restaurant in the area. While the hotel was great, on future trips to MV we will stay in Oaks Bluff or Edgartown.

Area recommendations
Vineyard Haven (where the Mansion House Inn is) is a nice area but VERY low key and quiet. We were able to spend a little time in Oak Bluffs and Edgarton and found that both of these Martha's Vineyard communities had a lot more to offer in terms of restaurants, shops and ambience.
Dining
I wouldn't exactly call this "dining," but a must-do meal: Go to Larsen's Fish Market in Menemsha. It's a fish market, not a restaurant, but they do have a small kitchen in which they cook lobster and a few other things. Order the lobster and then go outside the market and sit on lobster traps and rickety wooden boxes and enjoy the goodness of fresh lobster, oyster on the half shell, etc. BYOB if you're so inclined. Alert: The market closes at 7pm. After dinner, walk 200 yards to the beach and watch the sunset. Bring a blanket! Beware! Watch the bus schedule carefully as there is virtually no cell phone service so it's difficult to get a cab for the ride back to your hotel. We made arrangements in advance for our cabbie to come back just after sunset.

“See you next month”

From the front desk personnel to the staff at the restaurant to the housekeepers, everyone associated with the hotel was professional, polite and extremely eager to make our stay perfect. The property is welcoming, beautifully maintained and wonderfully comfortable. It was a great mid-Winter retreat to a place most commonly associated with Summer.

“BEAUTIFUL PLACE, GOOD FOOD, FRIENDLY SERVICE”

There is nothing not to like about this hotel. The chef made us baked stuffed lobsters upon request and the other food was very good with a nice breakfast buffet. Our room was spacious, well kept up and comfortable. The staff was super helpful and friendly. Work out room, sauna and large pool in the spa. We will go back in the summer but had a lot of fun in the winter season.

“couldn't ask for more”

The people at Mansion House went out of their way to be helpful to us. I was joined the morning of check out by several relatives with small babies and the staff set us all up with a function room which we used as a staging area for preparation for a family memorial service. It was very generous of them. The staff were very friendly at a time when we needed support. I wish I had been able to take advantage of the health spa and other amenities. For off season travelling this is a high class bargain.

Area recommendations
Walking around Vieyard Haven (Tisbury) is very pleasant. The architecture is fascinating and the shops and restaurants plentiful.
When to go
Off season is a great time to visit Martha's Vineyard. The colors were beautiful and the air fresh. Tourists were far and few between too.

“Great Location, Great Breakfast!”

Very nice hotel. Excellent location. Breakfast is included and it was outstanding. Room was nice and it was a good size. Decor is basic and not fancy -- rooms are decorated like a cape cod cottage. Balcony is tiny, not something you would sit on. Views are somewhat distant. The hotel has a roof deck which is lovely and has outstanding views, nice seating, etc.
