“Among the Best Hotels in Sainte-Luce!”

Beautiful Hotel but very French so they don't give you new bath towels every day (only every 7th day so for most visitors there will be no change of towels). Soap, shampoo and the like are very limited. Bring your own towels (and soap) or be prepared to use the on site Laundromat or pay extra for new bath towels every few days. The beach towels are too short for anyone approaching or exceeding 6 feet but those can be changed daily. Despite all this we will stay there again next time we visit Martinique since these are minor annoyances compared with the beauty of the hotel and grounds. Ask for a room on the 3rd Floor of the Sainte Lucie (022) is a good choice for six. The rooms have fabulous views of the pool and the Caribbean. The grounds are immaculate and the rooms are in excellent shape. Two small beaches are on the grounds with lots of activities for adults and children alike. Rentals of Kayaks etc are available on site. Sainte Luce is within 20 minutes or less of Trois Islets (in one direction) as well as Sainte Anne where the fabulous beaches are located (in the other direction) and not any further from the other parts of the island than if you stayed elsewhere. Overall a great place to stay for a week. Most of the employees don't speak anything but French as a practical matter so be prepared! They are very friendly however and try hard to please. The idea that the island is hostile to Americans and other non-French persons is nonsense in our view.

Area recommendations

Sainte Luce is within 20 minutes or less of Trois Islets (in one direction) as well as Sainte Anne where the fabulous beaches are located (in the other direction). Sainte Luce is not any further from the other parts of the island such as the mandatory visit to St. Pierre (1 hour) or Le Robert (1/2 Hour) or Presqu’ile de la Caravelle (45 minutes) than if you stayed elsewhere. Avoid Ste-Marie (and La Trinite except to get to Presqu’ile) they are ugly. Sainte Luce is convenient and avoids the congestion of Fort de France. Excellent restaurants in Sainte Luce; I wouldn’t recommend eating at the hotels where ordinary (and expensive) food is served. There is a huge grocery store in Le Marin that has easy access to and from the freeway (Route N5) I'd avoid Forte de France since you can stay elsewhere and take a ferry into Forte de France to spend a day visiting the sites. Don't take the ferry on a windy day however since sometimes they quit running the ferry if the water gets too choppy and you'll be stuck in Forte de France with no way to get back to your car without paying a $74 USD taxi fare!

When to go

Feb/March are the least rainy months.

Must see

St. Pierre's new museum which has a wonderful 30 minute video of the eruption that killed 30,000 persons in 3 minutes in the early 1900s. St. Pierra is easily to most artsy town in Martinique.

Family-friendly activities

The hotel has all kinds of activities for adults and children. If you have kids, it's a great place to stay.

“Knowledge of the French language is beneficial”

Not much time was spent using the hotel's facilities due to extensive travel around Martinique with our rental car. No problems were experienced dealing with the hotel staff.

Martinique is a beautiful island with many nice beaches along the coastline and much outstanding scenery viewed while touring the entire island.
