Extraordinary

Posted Jun 25, 2014
Pros: This is far different than any other hotel option. Amenities include several light settings at the push of a button.
Cons: Several public areas are a bit loud, but the beauty of the wood and art glass more than compensate.
Anyone who appreciates Frank Lloyd Wright's design and attention to detail should get to Mason City to enjoy a stay in this wonderful hotel. It's worth the time to tour every nook and cranny.

This is an historic hotel located downtown.

Posted May 11, 2014
Pros: Staying here was like being a part of the hotel's history.
Cons: Certainly not the service or cleanliness.
Location: The hotel is located downtown close to the Music Man Museum, enclosed mall, park with Veterans' Memorial, and a number of statues along the streets.
I can't say enough good things about our stay in this hotel from check-in to check-out. The staff at check-in was very helpful in giving directions for parking and introducing the building to us. We had a room on the second floor front with a view of the park across the way and a lovely lounge area just outside our door. The furnishings and amenities are period with the original construction and design, and although the room was smaller than most hotel rooms now, we had everything we could need. We especially enjoyed the heated bathroom floor. We snuggled into our clean comfortable bed just like we were at home, never giving thought to who might have slept there before. Continental breakfast was special with that delicious coffee they serve.

Lovely Historic Hotel

Posted May 9, 2014
Pros: The Craftsman style and Frank Lloyd Wright connection. The excellent restaurant. The heated bathroom floors.
Cons: Need a bit more info re: continental breakfast. We had to go through drawers & cabinets to find flatware, napkins, etc. Nothing was labeled.
Location: The only attraction I really explored was Music Man Square -- a tribute to Meredith Willson and his musical "The Music Man". It's a nice half-day.
I chose the Historic Park Inn because of its connection to Frank Lloyd Wright. The hotel is beautiful, and the craftsman style is showcased throughout. My room was comfortable, although it was tough getting the temperature to where I wanted it. I had to call downstairs a couple of times to work it out. I loved the bathroom -- particularly the heated floors! I'd have never thought they'd be necessary in May, but they were, and it was a very nice luxury. Floors are a bit creaky, which makes it hard to be really quiet, but I suppose that's part of the charm of an older building. I also had dinner at the 1910 Grille, and it was superb! Food and service were spot-on. Continental breakfast the next morning was a bit more mysterious. The hotel info didn't say where it was, just that it was on the 2nd Floor. And then once we found the room, there were pastries and bagels and coffee, but no flatware or napkins or jam, etc. We ended up going through all the drawers and finding everything very nicely organized. But a couple of signs or even just labels on the drawers would have been very helpful!

Beautiful renovation.

Posted Feb 18, 2014
Pros: Beautiful renovation. Tour was interesting. Food in the restaurant was great. Hotel staff couldn't have been nicer.
Cons: Room was a little too warm. The player piano has to be tuned or it should not be turned on. It was out of tune, out of time and annoying.
Location: Stockman house was great. We enjoyed the Lime Creek natural area as well.
overall great experience, beautiful renovation. It was a treat.

Great historic location!

Posted Jan 20, 2014
Pros: Location and architecture.
Cons: Not much, just getting the word out to more people to visit.
Location: Mason City Brewing Co. is just down the street, we also had the world's best Prime Rib at Chop that is just around the corner.
Very comfortable and unique hotel. It was the perfect weekend getaway. Would highly recommend this to others. Anyone who is a fan of the work of Frank Lloyd Wright should definitely make this a must visit location.

Terribly squeaky floors greatly disrupted sleep

Posted Oct 26, 2013
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: As an historic landmark designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, it is noteworthy. As a functioning hotel more than a century later, it fails dismally.
Location: Very little to do near by.
Nothing to tell, except that I will never stay there again.

This is a very special experience. This is the only working Frank Lloyd Wright hotel in America. The staff is superb. The hotel restaurant is exceptional. As you can see, we can't say enough about it!
