The Hotel staff was very friendly, and the room service was prompt and excellent. Have only positive to say about the Hotel.

“If I return to this city, I'd stay here again”

If you have to go to Matamoros and stay overnight, this hotel is a good choice. It has an excellent location (near the border bridges) same street as Garcia's restaurant, not too far from the Mercado. But be aware that Matamoros is very scary right now and not the safest place in Mexico to visit. However, the hotel had several federal police cars parked there, a strong police presence, and felt as safe as anywhere in this city. I found the front desk helpful and pleasant and the hotel and grounds were kept up well. The price for the room is as good a bargain as you can find for a quality hotel. I can't emphasize enough that, although there is violence and gun battles occurring periodically in Matamoros between military and drug cartels, at least the Gran Hotel felt secure and safe for me.
