Great Location with Sunset BBQ'sPosted Jul 29, 2014
Pros: Great location. BBQ area.
Cons: Room amenities. More picnic tables in BBQ area on Whaler's Village side.
Location: Snorkeling, boogie boarding, swimming, shopping, dining.
The Whaler has one of the best locations on one of the best beaches in Maui. It is right on Kaanapali beach and just a 5 minute walk from Black Rock, which has excellent snorkeling, swimming and boogie boarding. You will see many colorful fish and the occasional turtle just a few yards away from the beach near Black Rock. The property is older but well maintained. The grounds are beautiful, with the highlight being a stunning koi pond. The pond is great during the day but even better at night when they turn on the blue lights and the frogs start doing their "mating call". The two BBQ areas are very good. While both are popular, we preferred the one on the Whaler's Village side because you could hear the nice live music from the adjacent Hula Grill. The only problem with that BBQ area is that there are only 3 picnic tables and they tend to fill up very fast just before sunset. One group of about 20 people hogged the whole area for about 3 hours one night. It was very disappointing and we ended up eating our room that night. I wish the condo would charge a surcharge when large groups want to use the BBQ area. It's so rude to hog the area like that. Room amenities were good but with a few quibbles: BBQ tongs too short, dull knives, terrible hide-a-bed, bad WIFI (had to use my cellular data plan instead). Overall it was a very good stay and I would recommend it because it is the closest condo-style property to Black Rock.

Honeymoon Sweet!Posted Jul 28, 2014
We needed to find a new hotel during our Honeymoon as our Timeshare was not Honeymoon material. We stayed at the hotel for (4) nights and wish it would have been more. The Hotel location is perfect. It is on a prime area of the Beach. A 5 minute walk to Black Rock, next to the Whaler Shopping Mall with Restaurants on the Beach and a short drive to the Downtown Shops and Restaurants. The Rooms are all privately owned and very nicely appointed. Full Kitchens, a nice patio for watching the sunset and the beach. The views are great! The property is very nice, neat and manicured with parking underneath the buildings for convenience. This is a fantastic place to plug in for a week or more and enjoy Maui and all there is to do! We will be back again without a doubt!

Excellent all around condoPosted Jul 28, 2014
Pros: above mentioned
Cons: the carpet in the unit smelled a little mildewed
This condo was advertised as ocean view and it delivered. The balcony was exceptionally large which offered an additional sitting area for the four of us . The unit had everything you needed right down to a pizza cutter. They even offered additional amenities that we welcomed, like a mattress topper and a Brita water filter. There was laundry on each floor; an air-conditioned gym, beach amenities, even a spa, nail and hair salon on site.

Great hotel, great positionPosted Jul 28, 2014
Pros: Big rooms and kitchen set up. Position - the whole Kaanapali Resort (of which the Aston on the Whaler is part) is stunning and well maintained.
Cons: Can't think of anything
Location: Plenty of restaurants, golf, bus to local town, snorkelling and an array of other water based sports such as para-sailing
We really enjoyed this hotel/condominium set up with its full kitchen offer so there was the opportunity for some self-catering. We were on the 8th floor in Tower 2 which gave us a great view of the ocean to the right, the volcano/mountains to the left, together with the gorgeous and well-manicured golf course and Whalers Village right in front which is next door to the accommodation. Everything was very convenient - shopping and eating literally a stone's throw away. Laihana is an easy $2 bus ride from Whalers Village so also very handy for that extra retail therapy hit and to stock up on groceries. The room was large and airey with a nice balcony area and the hotel staff pleasant and accommodating. There is plenty to see and do, although we spent a lot of time by the pool relaxing, however did take in a catamaran trip for a morning's snorkelling further up the coast. It seems a car might be useful if you want to explore further on your own, however as antipodeans who are used to driving on the left, it wasn't for us!

Beautiful viewsPosted Jul 20, 2014
Pros: Location and beach
Cons: Closer to the point break--but that just is unrealistic. They should plant more palm trees
Location: In the heart of Kaanapali Beach--terrific location
Great room at great location. Right next to Whalers Village so those who want to be close to the action but still able to get away it is perfect.

Overall experiencePosted Jul 19, 2014
I was in tower one in room 718 for six nights. The room had a king bed and pullout sofa bed (studio). It was perfect for my two kids and I. The room was recently renovated and was very nice. The view from balcony was beautiful and the kitchen was well stocked with the appropriate utensils. The hotel staff was very accommodating and they ensured the premises were well maintained. I liked the underground garage with elevad near the beach, boardwalk and shopping. I will definitely stay at the Wh/aler again and may ask for the same room, if available.

Nice hotel & Good Location!Posted Jul 8, 2014
Cons: Get rid of those murphy beds!
We stayed here for 5 nights in May. Our room had a partial view of the ocean which was very pretty at sunset. Overall, we enjoyed everything except for the Murphy bed. We had hoped for a queen size bed, but instead we received a murphy bed which was not very comfortable.

Great location but lacking kid friendly pool.Posted Jul 3, 2014
Pros: Location, location, location is great.
Cons: Need a kid friendly pool.
Upgraded to larger 2 bedroom suite very easily after 2 nights and staff was very accommodating. Resort needs to update pool area to make more kid friendly. 4 foot is the shallow end.
