“Nice place to stay a while”

The apartments are situated around 10 minutes from Grand Bay beach and the centre of town. Located right next to it is a small and very convenient superstore (Store 2000) that is open till 7pm every day (apart from Sunday where most things close at 1pm). There is a hypermarket called Super U about 15-20 minutes walk from it where you can get all you need including souvenirs for less. The building is new, clean and well maintained - apartments are cleaned daily. The apartments include air conditioning, flat screen TV, equipped kitchen and balcony plus 24-hour security/reception. Staff were also friendly and helpful. There are quite a few restaurants (Chinese, American, French etc) within short walking distance so don't be coerced by security into being taken to a 'traditional' restaurant by car and getting ripped off. For excursions and trips around the country ask for Grand Bay Travel & Tours (GBTT) who are based in the centre of town and are very good way to get to see the country by group or individual tours. It is worth haggling! If you are heading to Port Louis however, I would recommend the Express bus which costs 35 rupees and leaves every half an hour from opposite the GBTT office (avoid Sundays as most places are closed or close by midday). Overall, minus the geckos- which is nature's fault, the stay in Grand Bay Suites was excellent and I would recommend it.

“Grand Bay Suites, review”

Disliked: Apartment overbooked on our first night and had to be relocated elsewhere. Noisy pool pump runs all day. Pool chemicals added to the pool during the pool opening times The town of Grand Bay, so don't stay here more than a few days, move down to the West coast. The apartment complex layout, we felt a bit overlooked by the other guests. Washing room has only one washing machine. Liked: Easy going and friendly. Very good supermarket next door. Security staff helpful, particularly Nicholas.
