"Great place to stay"
My wife and i brought in New Years in Belize for two weeks. One of those weeks we stayed at the Macaroni Hill View Hotel, and we had one of the best times of our lives. The Ferguson's (the owners) made our trip with there hospitality, generosity, and there eagerness to make us comfortable. The whole family took time out of their days to show us local customs, hidden treasures, and teach us everything they could about their country. And You can't not mention the food, Mrs.Ferguson is a tremendous cook, some of the best local cuisine. If you are looking for a trip to Belize this is one of the best places to stay to experience Belizean living. We will definitely be back.

Belizean Dreams Resort

"Bucket list vacation"
If you have never visited Belize before, you should consider staying at Belizean Dreams. It's a great place to relax, enjoy the sun, and witness the beauty of the largest leaving reef. The staff is friendly and they go out of their way to see that you have a great time. The daily adventures offered include ziplining and cave tubing, Mayan ruins at Xunantunich, island hopping and snorkeling at Coco Plum (you must do), Mayflower water and hiking tour (didn't do this, but heard it was great). We flew into Belize City and took a quick 20 minute flight to Dandgriga. Belizean Dreams will pick you up in Dangriga. From there, it's another 30 minute ride to Belizean Dreams. The cost of the short flight to Dangriga and shuttle to the hotel for 2 people was $425.00 USD. Your other option is a 3+ hour shuttle from the Belize City airport to Belizean Dreams. We ate all our meals at the resort. You choices outside the resort are very limited. However, we enjoyed every meal. The grounds were beautiful. The pool was clean. The drinks at the pool side bar were good. This is a nice place for couples. You can't go wrong.

Almond Beach Resort & Spa

Sittee Point Rd., Hopkins - Map
"Loved it"
Almond Beach was great! We stayed there for the second half of our honeymoon, after Hamanasi. I'm not sure that any resort wants to be reviewed after a stay at Hamanasi because holy cow that place was incredible, but Almond Beach did an admirable job of it. I booked a room at Almond Beach (which also runs the adjacent Jaguar Reef Lodge) and was given a room in the very recently completed (December 2014) Villa Margarita instead. I did not complain because the room was gorgeous and the view was impeccable (ask for Villa Margarita 302 -- top floor, most privacy). Staff was friendly, and the whole place was everything we hoped for. If you do stay there or somewhere else in Hopkins, grab a burger at Loggerheads just a few yards down the street. I don't know if we were just starving or if they put crack in those burgers or what, but they were so good.

"Nice hotel, quiet area, close to beach"
Food was great, Mike the manager was excellent, Chef Robs was a great restaurant and so was Love on the Rocks. The front desk person should be a little more outgoing. She did not inform us of the fact that kayaks were free for hotel guests upon arriving or really of anything that would have been helpful with our stay. The hostess in the dining room went out of her way to be helpful with our little boy. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone going to Hopkins.

Blue Marlin Beach Resort

14 Miles Offshore from Dangriga, South Water Caye - Map
"Quiet and secluded"
We stayed at the Blue Marlin on our recent trip to Belize. South Water Caye is about 45 minutes from Dangriga and is a small island that has three resorts on it. Even though the island is about a mile long by about 2 blocks wide the three resorts don't seem to get along very well. I think this is planned so that they can each have the guest of their resort be committed to the services (food, drinks, snorkeling, diving, etc.) of that resort. We booked our trip online and paid plenty for the one week stay and airfare. What I didn't realize is all of the added cost that wasn't included. The flights included in our booking was into Belize City and didn't include the short (25 minute) flight from Belize City to Dangriga (an additional $163 per person round trip) and the 45 minute boat ride (an additional $135 per person round trip). The meals are also an additional fee ($2,145 per couple including snorkeling). Don't forget to add the 12.5% sales tax and 10% service fee to everything. The staff was great. They where very friendly and did what they could within the obvious boundaries in place my management. The food was American fare and was average in quality. For the price charged you would think the food would be better but in general it was OK. In short, if I knew all of the add-on fees that wheren't included initially I wouldn't book with them again, a $4k to $5k trip should be a lot better quality than Blue Marlin.
