Have been here many times. Mostly American and Canadian guests in thanksgiving week. Grounds and hotel in perfect condition. Food and drinks by the pool adequate and priced fairly. Restaurant food has declined in quality since the hotel pushes all inclusive package. Wish they did not. All inclusive attracts a different crowd. If you eat and drink a lot it is worth. A la carte menu is fairly priced but choice and quality not to par with hotel experience.

It was a beautiful hotel but in the middle of nowhere. It's a great thing that the food and service was great because no one was going to delivery pizza to you. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.

I have stayed here before and thought it wonderful, so my return is no surprise. The staff could not possibly have been any more helpful or friendly. And for this traveler that is the most important thing when being in a foreign country. I always felt secure, safe and welcome. It is an older hotel, yet the location is so much better that the new ones further north, as I could walk to many good restaurants. An overall very pleasant experience.

From the moment we arrived at the resort, we loved it. I can't say enough about the staff and their customer service skills. The resort is stunning from every view. The beach runs for miles and all of the expected luxuries are readily accessible. The resort is huge and remotely located on over 800 acres and access protected be a security gate. It's like being in a gated community which put us in an extra relaxed state. Though there was only one restaurant - we can't complain about the food - it's well prepared and sizable portions. The rooms are very nicely designed and our ocean view from the balcony was breath taking. The room's restroom was large with double sinks, a private toilet, a stand-up shower and separate tub. Our room had a mini-frig, coffee maker, iron and ironing board, a valuables safe, cable TV and good wi-fi reception. The pools, spa & salon were also nice.
As I mentioned the resort is over 800 acres but there is only one restaurant and no shopping - that includes a souvenir shop. The hotel provided us a shuttle into the city to shop but the city isn't close by and they don't wait for you - they return for you. None of the boat tours pick-up from the the resort beach so you also need to get a shuttle to the city to take advantage of those things. While the cleaning staff were excellent, there were insects in the sinks regularly. We weren't sure if that was a pest control issue or a Mazatlan issue but they didn't keep us from enjoying our stay.

This is a wonderful resort. It is older but the rooms are spacious, the decks (I had one facing the ocean) are large, and the facility and landscaping are very nice. The place is absolutely spotless. The restaurant sits right next to the beach and is open air and had pretty green tablecloths. It is very nice and the food I ate was good. Breakfast of pancakes and fruit was great as well as the American breakfast. I didn't use the buffet. The wifi worked well in the room. NO English channels on TV. The pool area is nice. The beach area with the palapas is very nice. The rocking chairs in the open air lobby area were nice when once wanted to sit and read. Workers were always cleaning the walkways, the beach, the floors. The place was perfect! The grounds are nice. Three pools. I will go back.

I recently stayed at an enormous resort in Playa del Carmen that was so big and impersonal. My stay at the Royal Villas was more intimate and friendly. The staff were all so nice...the room was clean and had a beautiful ocean view...I was very impressed. Will definitely be going back!

Just spent a week at this hotel and had a great time. Located on a beautiful sandy beach with lots of restaurants and attractions nearby. Would go back again to this hotel. Staff and amenities were very good.
