"Paradise"
This is a very unique property. It's remote and very quiet. It's a beautiful setting. I have been going there for 10 years. The golf course is in the best shape it's ever been in. It looks like they have really sunk some money into the course just in the last 12 months. There is no traffic, no noise, no beach vendors, just piece and quiet. The staff is extremely accomodating. They don't seem to know how to say no to anything. The new hotel is very nice and extremely well maitained. The rooms are spacious and very well appointed. They have new shuttle vans for the airport and trips into Mazatlan. They need major work in the kitchen. The food was horrible. They have a new Food & Beverage Manager. I couldn't tell if he hadn't been there long enough to fix the problem or if he was the culprit. I stayed there a year ago and the food was great. Not the case anymore. The chef could over cook anything and did regularly. He over cooked the Tuna, the Ribeye and the Chicken. He got the Caprese Salad just right.

"The Best!!"
Took my son to El Cid for vacation and what a great time! Went fishing with one of the fishing fleets that El Cid offers at the hotel. 185lbs Marlin, 140 Sail Fish, and 4 Dorados (mahi mahi) the first 3 hours at sea. My son enjoyed every minute of relaxation by the pool and the cabanas at the beach. The price was so low and I would have paid double knowing how nice it was. I will be back!!

"It would of been nice if..."
The hotel aesthetics are overall pleasing. They have very limited dining options and they only have one bar that closes rather early. The staff are pretty pleasant and are for the most part engaging. The rooms and hallways seem that they are in need of some remodeling. Unfortunately for me they decided to begin the remodeling process at 7 am in the room right next to mine during my vacation. When I was awoken at 7 am on a Monday morning I immediately called the front desk and inquired about the loud noises. The person from the front desk stated that that they would investigate what the noise was...they already knew but played dumb. The power tools stopped for about an hour but the hammering continued. Then at around 9 am the power tools began again...for two days straight this continued. When I complained with the front desk they were unable to refund me anything, the only thing they offered was a late check out...no thanks. The hotel would of been nice if they were a bit more considerate to their hotel guest.

"Close to beach but a bit out of town"
First off, LOVE Mazatlan! First time here and we picked it be cause we wanted a place that was not overly touristy. We got exactly what we wanted. Crowne Plaza is located about 30 minutes from downtown but it's a fun cab ride. The hotels staff especially the waiters were very friendly and the food was good. Beautiful location with a great pool but also the option of going in the ocean.

"Nice Place, Mostly Laid Back"
It was all in all a good experience. This hotel is far from any activities so bring your cab budget. It's like 100 ($7.50 USD) pesos to the Golden Zone. I found that much of Mazatlán is Spanish speaking only. My experiences in Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Playa Del Carmen, and Cancun had many more folks who were bilingual. Shame on me for not being but for a tourist town I'd expected a bit less trouble communicating with hotel staff. We were there for 6 nights and only had two real issues during the stay. The first was that they were replacing pool deck tiles with a hammer, chisel, and sometimes a jackhammer. This noise was unbearable, especially bright and early in the morning. A brief question to the head maintenance guy and the noise was limited to afternoon hours and stopped completely over the weekend. Gracias! The next was Sunday night when there were many local guests and everyone had a boombox and/or too much to drink making for loud voices. That quieted down about 11pm but 15m later, the Karaoke started up in the room above ours. They ran until about 3am. That was a bit tough. The final thing was that the pool could have been operated better. It was one of those 'zero edge' pools that requires water to spill over the edge to be automatically skimmed. The water level was too low so it wasn't being skimmed and after busy days there was a float of debris including body and tanning oils on the surface.

"Relaxing Stay"
We booked an all inclusive. There are many restaurant options at the resort and the pools are wonderful. The only thing is, you have to make reservations for some of the restaurants a day in advance or else you will be eating at the buffet every evening like we did. A tip of 20-40 pesos goes a long way. The servers and cleaning staff are extra friendly and helpful. Apparently tourists do not tip now a days. El Cid (and Mazatlan in general), is a relaxing and beautiful place.
