Nice hotel close to Airport

Pros: Style, cleanliness
Cons: An included breakfast would be nice
Location: It is near the airport, but also near shops and restaurants.
The hotel is nice and is kept clean. It also has really nice character with exposed beams and Spanish style artwork in the rooms. The pool that is protected from the street because it is in an inner courtyard is a decent size and well kept. The restaurant in the hotel is ok, a bit overpriced for what it offers, though.

Cons: The recommended restaurant list the hotel provides should include The Patio on Guerra. Food, service and atmosphere was fantastic - an unexpected gem
Location: Centrally located to many of the birding sites in the area. Visit The Patio on Guerra restaurant - 5 block walk from hotel.
We visited the Rio Grande Valley area to explore the regional birding areas. We originally planned to stay at the Casa de Palmas for a couple of days and then move on to another hotel in the area, However we enjoyed our stay so much we opted to spend all five days of our vacation at this hotel. It provided affordable resort-style experience, great service/food, and it is centrally located to all the places we chose to visit in the area. Highly recommended!

Pros: Employees are very friendly and helpful
Cons: I would suggest having more people at front desk when the hotel is expected to be full; took more than normal to check in due to only one person at FD
All was good! Nothing really to complain about it.

Older Hotel... not up to par

Pros: I suppose this is the best of the bunch in town..
Cons: Actually making sure that the room being booked is actually reserved..
Initially the room I booked - Double queens with a courtyard view... wasn't available. So I was moved to another room with double beds - the only room they had but didn't have a thermostat. Spent the first night sweating and trying to call the front desk - but alas the phone doesn't work, also no Iron... the second night I was able to move to another room (still not the room I had reserved... but a slightly better room with an actual working phone and thermostat... The worst surprise came with the bill because I was still charged the premium rate for the courtyard view although I never got to experience that amenity. No response given - When I asked about it - no response from the front end staff..

Pretty on the outside - Dirty & Noisy on the insid

Pros: The upside was parking was convenient, what little staff I saw throughout my staff was pleasant, and it was a nice location for getting around town.
Cons: Smell, beds, pillows, sound proofing, etc.
The room smelled of chemicals when I first walked in and even with running the AC, the smell did not go away. Thankfully I was able to open the windows to let some fresh air in, but as soon as the windows were closed the smell returned. The mattress was very worn out and the pillows were beyond flat. There were a total of 4 king pillows and you needed all four to even try to prop yourself up. My back ached after a few nights in this hotel and that rarely, if ever, happens and sadly it may have been worse had I spent another night. The walls appeared to be brick, but you could hear EVERYTHING on either side. The woman in the room next to me spent nearly three hours on the phone talking to a psychic and the man on the other side left his TV on all night at an extremely loud volume. None of the ice machines or vending machines functioned correctly leading hotel patrons down to the front desk/gift shop area every time they wanted to partake of comfort items.

Pros: The check in was effortless good customer service
Cons: Get rid of the musty odor.
When I first opened the door there was a musty odor. Our stay was this January and it was a little cold. The room was freezing! The bed linens had the musty odor penetrated in them.
