“McGraw Days Inn”

Although a bit 'dated' this hotel was perfectly satisfactory for our visit to Cortland. Positives: The Continental breakfast was good, the AC worked well, plenty of parking. the TV was fine, ice machines were generous, the beds and pillows were comfortable, and the rate for value was OK. Downsides: The bathroom was tiny, with the sink in the room; the hallways smelled heavily of Fabreze and old cigarette smoke; the wireless was dead poor in our room at the very end of the hallway.

I get it that this isn't meant to be a luxury hotel, but there are a couple of things that could be improved. First, they advertise that rooms are available as of 2 p.m. We arrived, checked in, and went to the room only to find it wasn't made up. To be fair, it was shortly before 2 p.m., but there wasn't a maid in sight and it didn't look like the room was going to be made up any time soon, so we went to lunch. Second, it has a decent continental breakfast, but the room is way too small. Rather than fight to get to the toaster, we hoofed it out of there since we were in a hurry to get someplace.

Mattresses are deformed, hard and uncomfortable pillows, sheets very old and used (almost transparent), low-quality soaps, no curtains to the street, old, dirty carpet.

“If you're sensitive to cigarette smoke, stay elsewhere”

The room and the hallway had a persistant odor of smoke. This is despite the fact that I was in a non-smoking room. When I woke up in the morning my sinuses were clogged. The front desk clerk claimed that there was no such smell...and appeared to take it personally when I asked him to air out the room. Otherwise, the room was clean enough.
