“A pleasant surprise.”
Small, clean, and convenient. Good restaurants nearby. Short walk to free tram.
“Nice mini apartment, bed/service not so great”
We stayed for 3 nights and the location is good, being near Carlton Gardens, Chinatown and central Melbourne. It is a little hard to find since it is on a small alleyway. There is no driveway or parking so you need to unload quickly. We were checked in readily although I did not appreciate the reception person trying to rush me to sign the registration form saying I was responsible for all charges, when I had pre-paid for the room! The apartment is nice and spacious with some dishes and pots/pans, a washer/dryer, fridge, and microwave. The bed was NOT so great - having already sustained indentation in the middle from some heavyweights. The next day we were out and returned at 4pm to find the room uncleaned. We called and they said they were going to do it soon and the maid arrived at 4:30pm such that we had to leave again. The next day we asked for earlier maid service and the room was cleaned in the morning. The room was quiet except there is construction a block away that caused some noise. But at least the room had double-paned glass. TV channels were ok, and the included wireless internet worked albeit very slowly at times. Parking is provided by a 24 hour lot that is part of a church around the corner. But we were quoted $58 for 3 days and when we moved to our next hotel, it was only $15/day. Fraser is comfortable and nice in terms of having a kitchen (not good for heavy cooking since it is essentially in the bedroom!), but staff was just average.
