Grand Hotel of yesteryear

Posted Aug 19, 2014
Perfect spot for theatre goers. I usually would stay closer to city centre but this was no trouble as you Were almost on the corner of Bourke Street and a tram station was right there. Lovely spot. I'd definitely stay sgain.

A nostalgic visit to a Melbourne icon

Posted Aug 13, 2014
Pros: As above
Cons: For an example of an old hotel with a long history, it was perfect.
Location: As above
Beautifully maintained public rooms, bedrooms comfortable but in an old fashioned style, very well sited for shopping and city attractions. I enjoyed my visit and found all staff helpful and polite in the grand hotel tradition.

Lovely old world charm

Posted Aug 11, 2014
Pros: It's beautiful creation of grand but understated comfort .
As the door is opened for you , you enter a tranquil foyer of yesterday. The perfume of fresh flowers and old world charm. A lovely and grand place to stay, not tiles and glass, but textured carpets and timber. Staff are charming and do whatever they can to make your stay enjoyable. Breakfast is a leasurely delight. Attention to detail would sum up the Hotel Windsor

Historic Hotel top-end city

Posted Aug 10, 2014
Pros: The History and the overall ambience.
Cons: Nothing really - maybe freshened up paint-wise in the future.
Location: The location is great for Theatre-goers and fabulous Restaurants, bars etc. Right near Parliament Station too.
The Hotel Windsor was and is a beautiful old building and it was a pleasure to stay there. The traditional room wasn't large, but sufficient for our short stay. We loved the overall charm of the building & reading about it's history. The facade and entrance to the Hotel are beautiful. The Continental Breakfast we had was to die for, with a huge variety of foods. We travelled by train to the Hotel, alighting at Parliament Station which is right near the Windsor. Would stay again for sure. Love that part of the city (top-end) - all the Theatres, great Restaurants and a buzz with people. Beautiful to see at night with the city lights etc. Can't wait to return sometime.

A brush with old world charm and elegance.

Posted Aug 5, 2014
The Windsor is one of Melbourne's grand and historic old hotels with all the accoutrements one would expect from such a venue. For a modest fee I was given an upgrade to a "superior room" which had a high ceiling, was large, well appointed and very comfortable and had a view across to Parliament House. Additionally, if I was prepared to forego the lift I was afforded the pleasure of reaching my room via a beautiful grand staircase from the foyer. An experience well worth the effort.

Beautiful, historic hotel

Posted Aug 2, 2014
Pros: I liked the situation and architecture, the staff and services offered.
Cons: The heating in our room was very high and could not be lowered, making it difficult to sleep.
Location: Parliament House and Treasury Gardens are just across the road. Her Majesty's Theatre is a five minute walk, as is Chinatown.
Hotel staff were friendly and welcoming. The hotel itself is beautiful and very well maintained. It is only a short walk from theatres and restaurants.
