Quaint but datedPosted Sep 22, 2014
On the positive side, we had dinner both nights we stayed in the hotel and the food was very good. The grounds are also very nicely kept. On the negative side, we found the place quite dated and run down. We also had a significant wait on both check in and check out.

Not a good check inPosted Aug 17, 2014 on Hotels.com
We checked in about 9 pm and the woman on night duty was not very welcoming. We had prepaid and booked a garden suite with two beds or a king. We were given keys and a map to our room with no offer to help with luggage. We found our room which had no view of any garden and was tiny and tired looking with one bed and an old big box tv that took up most of the counter space. We called the desk to report that our room was unacceptable. We were then given what we booked with some lame excuse that a computer assigns the rooms when booking on line. The hotel was not at all full and why a clerk wouldn't make sure guests were in the best rooms available is a mystery to me. We won't stay there again but we will eat at FLOW next door which has terrific food and a very friendly waitstaff.

A mixed bag.Posted Aug 5, 2014 on Hotels.com
Our room did not have two full beds as reserved (for two adults and a child) but rather only one bed. It was a gloomy and dark as a dungeon and stunk quite badly of mold. The phone didn't even work to call the front desk. This was room 307. Because we expressed our unhappiness and because they had no room available with two beds, they kindly upgraded us to a suite. It still had only one bed but we removed the cheap mattress from the unusably uncomfortable sleeper sofa and threw it on the floor for my kid. Fortunately I had a blanket in the car for because the one thin blanket supplied was insufficient (there were no extras in the closet as is customary). That said, the suite was large and nice (room 303). Despite the vast improvement, even this upgrade had moldy shower ceiling, accumulated dirt along the baseboards throughout, and no usable wifi signal as promised. This hotel does not live up to its potential, certainly not at thw rates collected. The restaurant and lobby are great. Both have wonderful atmosphere and the restaurant fed us in fine fashion both for dinner and breakfast. All in all a mixed bag but too much of a gamble to book with them again.

Great Location, Lovely victorian ambiancePosted Jul 25, 2014 on Hotels.com
Front desk service very helpful. Some of the antiqueness of the hotel proper (I didn't see the garden suites) is a bit tired, but this is an undeniably great place. The Euro-style rooms are perfectly comfortable and the common full bathrooms are clean and very convenient. Bar service could use some help, but not a deal breaker, I didn't eat in the restaurant, but it seemed to have lots of customers both guests and passers by. Location cannot be beat!

Hotel rooms very very tiny, almost claustrophobic. Shared bathroom requiring a key a turn off. Left after one night. Positive: front desk helpful and location ideal.

Adorable, gorgeous, historical, wonderful staffPosted Jun 28, 2014
This historic hotel is right on the water and really beautiful. It has lots of character and makes for an amazing stay in Mendocino. Would highly recommend.

AVOID "EURO" STYLE ROOMS!! These rooms that have a shared bathroom are very small with not much more room than a 3 ft rim of floor space along the side and foot of a full size bed shoved into the corner of the room. There was no TV and the internet wifi access was laughably slow, making it impossible to do anything online. The room is situated above the bar/restaurant so it is loud until about 9-10pm when that closes. There is no noticeable ventilation and so my room was very hot to sleep in, despite the outside temperature being 50-60 degrees. I ended up waking up in the middle of the night sweating, and having to walk out onto the shared balcony to cool off. I had to leave the balcony door open the rest of the night to stay comfortable. If you plan to stay in Mendocino, avoid the "Euro" style rooms and spring for one with a bathroom in the room, which may have more space and be more comfortable.

Great locationPosted Jun 3, 2014 on Hotels.com
Located in the center of Mendocino. Great brunch. We were in the Garden Suite. TV in main room only (none in bedroom). Bed very comfortable. Large bathroom. Has a towel warmer by tub but couldn't get it to work (front desk confirmed it doesn't work). All in all, enjoyed our stay very much.

beautiful scenery, beautiful furnishingsPosted Jun 3, 2014
The price may make you hesitate, however the setting, view and furnishings all make it worth it! We were in one of the garden suites and were suprised by how spacious and clean everything was. Definitely take a walk around the headlands, it is well worth the view!
