Lovely hotel in excellent location but ....

Posted May 28, 2015
Pros: The location is fabulous, easy to get around even without a car.
Cons: As mentioned above the reception staff need to improve their customer service skills. They were very unwelcoming and let down the other staff.
Location: There is a small bay as you come out of the hotel and turn right, about 4 minute walk. Fabulous restaurants. Water taxi service was really useful.
The hotel itself is lovely, great location near the small bay, which has excellent restaurants. Don't go all inclusive or you miss out eating in the bay. We did bed and breakfast, which was just right. We paid extra for a superior room with a sea view but were disappointed with the view, and not sure what the regular rooms were like but not sure I would call ours superior. We think that as they allocated us a double room they then didn't have the right room for us. The room was however incredibly clean and well looked after. The one thing that let this hotel down was the front desk / reception staff. They gave us the wrong room to start with (we booked a twin and they gave us a double). When we went to ask them to change our room we were made to feel it was our fault they had made a mistake, even though our paperwork clearly stated a twin room. From then on the customer service at reception was really poor. We were not given the information leaflet about the hotel features and so did not know where to get pool towels etc. The reception staff really let all the other staff down, they were unfriendly, unhelpful and constantly answered the telephone in the middle of dealing with visitors at the desk. It was a shame as all the other staff, who all work incredibly hard in the bars etc, we're all excellent. It wouldn't put us off staying there again, they just need to work on the customer service of the reception staff.

smart hotel, but room overlooked car park

Posted May 23, 2015
Pros: views, staff, efficiency. adults only hotel.
Cons: Clarification that spending extra on a 'superior' room will mean you are located over a car park.
Location: Located right on the edge of the bay with lovely views. Within easy walking distance of boat taxi and bus stops. close to shops ( a few), restaurants
This hotel is smart, efficiently run and in a beautiful location. The food is good and the staff very helpful. However we paid extra to have a 'superior' room which we found overlooked a car park, so we did not benefit from any of the glorious views of the sea. Instead we got little sleep as we were woken by cars and deliveries below our window in the early hours of the morning.

Comfortable, clean hotel close to the harbour

Posted May 18, 2015
We had a lovely 5 days here. The hotel is very high spec, clean, and has brilliant facilities. The rooms are compact but provide just enough space not to feel too cramped. I would recommend paying the supplement to have a view of the sea. It's lovely to sit out there watching the boats go past. The shower is amazing!!! Hot, powerful and has loads of space. For a buffet breakfast, it really isn't that bad - there's a very good selection and the service staff are friendly and helpful. We went to the beach every day so we didn't use the swimming pool, however we sat on the roof top terrace which was lovely. I would definitely recommend the hotel, however I would also recommend renting a car so that you can get out and see the island as Es Castell is a very small fishing village and you can see everything in a day or two.

Wonderful place!

Posted Oct 27, 2014 on Hotels
From the moment we arrived we were delighted with the place. The taxi brought us into Es Castell and down the road towards the sea view and around the corner was the beautiful and very unobtrusive hotel building, what a lovely surprise. The staff were all excellent, we had a fabulous room with a sea view and although this was not a sunny balcony we sat there many times in the evening just watching the quiet harbour entrance and the lovely yachts and the very occasional larger ship. The Blue Sky Bar on the rooftop of the hotel is spectacular. When we walked out to the nearby harbour of Calesfonts we were also delighted with this even though many businesses were closed as it was towards the end of the season. We walked quite a lot into the surrounding areas and enjoyed every minute of that too. There was nothing we would change about our week with the exception of one tiny thing for us - the swimming pool was rather too cold for a dip.

nice hotel if you like modern but not menorcan

Posted Oct 19, 2014
Pros: clean and comfy near to areas of interest
Cons: put different doors on toilets in the rooms heat pool
Location: mahon brilliant to walk round habour worth a boat trip. la mola(the fort of isabella) really worth a visit but need a car and at least 3 hours
staff welcoming and pleasant. hotel clean bedrooms very modern ok if you are not modest about lack of privacy (sat on toilet and could see husband on bed through gap in glass door) buffet food good but not very hot breakfast the best enjoyed stay for 2 days perfect to visit mahon and local area. pool too cold and too small would not like to go when busy or full

Wonderful rooftop

Posted Oct 4, 2014
Pros: Rooftop!
Cons: Tea and coffee freely available in the room.
Location: Nice harbour side bars and restaurants just around the corner. Excellent sailing from Mahon marina.
Stayed one night at this hotel. The hotel is very nice and clean and all very modern. As it was quite expensive would have liked to have tea and coffee in the room. The kettle and everything needed was already there but you had to pay extra to buy the tea and coffee pack!! Wonderful views from the roof and the jacuzzis are great but a little cold, however this is appreciated if you have been in the hot sun. Nice area of local bars etc just round the corner, so don't do fully inclusive otherwise you will miss out.

Nice hotel, very polite and friendly staff

Posted Sep 24, 2014
Pros: Staff, rooftop bar and jacuzzis, great view over the bay, lovely breakfast.
Cons: Having an iron in every room would be helpful as we had to ring down each day to borrow one from reception.
Location: Very good location with a multitude of lovely restaurants in walking distance as well as very pleasant walks around the bay.
Overall we really enjoyed our staff at Barcelo. The hotel is very nicely decorated with the rooftop bar being a particular highlight. The staff were very helpful and accommodating as well as being exceedingly pleasant. Juan Pablo and Luisa in particular stood out for us.
