Excellent
Overall great stay at Occidental. The food is delicious and the staff are lovely. There is a lot of emphasis put on the entertainment in the resort and most people seemed to love it however the music can be a bit overbearing when you are trying to relax at the pool.

This is the second time we have been to the Occidental Menorca, Menorca Pueblo before. I have to say that the highlights of this hotel are the front desk staff and the close proximity to the beautiful Pinta Prima beach. The restaurant staff is not the best, cleaning around the restaurant areas was poor and restaurant staff disappointing. Food is good for a buffet. A bit disappointing as it was better the first time we visited.

Generally great with a few minor points.
Overall a great stay with just a few minor gripes. The room, general facilities (particularly for young kids), food and location are great. However service could be a bit better; our air conditioning wasn't working on the first day, but looked like it was. It took quite a serious and blunt discussion with the staff to take me seriously and to move us rooms. Also minor things like them not being to provide irons or ironing boards to the rooms, but sending you to the laundry to do it. These are small changes that could help. Also the food timings are a bit off for UK families. Breakfast starting at 8am and dinner at 1930 is very late for young kids! Overall we enjoyed our stay though.

we had 3 nights all inclusive because our flight home was cancelled, lovely hotel, nice staff, good food, not all facilities open when we stayed, 18/06/22, the only thing I would say was a slight negative is that during meal times, it’s is very busy, there is no control over people around the buffet stations, absolute chaos, it is table service in the evening for drinks but buffet service for food, the waitress staff are run off their feet, they deserve a medal, cleaning tables, setting tables, getting drinks, a self serve area for drinks should be an option, it’s available to all inclusive in the snack bar

The hotel was close to Punta Prima beach which had loads of cafes on its doorsteps. The breakfast and dinner was actually quite nice and had good buffet selections. Things we didn’t like: for starters parking was NOT free for hotel guests. Never in my 20 years of travelling have we had to pay to park our car at the hotel we are staying. Our bathroom tub was cracked. On our last night the air conditioner failed to work and we were not even offered a partial compensation. The receptionist lied to our face and said “we had an issue with the air conditioners” when clearly other guests had theirs working. The safety deposit box in the rooms had a fee if we wanted to use that. It seems like Barcelo hotel group is trying to leech guests out of every penny they can to make up for financial losses I cured during this pandemic. I can safely say that we will NEVER be staying at the Barcelo group ever again

Just returned from this hotel. Moving here was not our choice. Accommodation originally booked unavailable due to refurbishment. Clientele appeared to be about 95% Italian, 5% French, and the rest other nations. Staff could not be faulted and the food choice adequate Would we stay here again. Not out of choice. Found the rooms small, walls thin, extremely noisy. Most of the hot food only lukewarm.

Nice pools & bar area. In general all staff gave good friendly service Animation team played there music a max volume which is not to everyone’s liking especially if not taking part in the activities which 95% of the guest appeared not to be.... Grounds maintenance staff very noisy from 7:30am !! And worst of all the food........... whilst having a reasonable choice (not up to 4star standard mind) most items were cold and at most tepid, only the salads & ice cream were at the correct temperature we found this extremely disappointing..... other than that we had a pleasant stay

Good quality resort hotel, good pools, comfortable modern rooms (most without sea views if this bothers you, it's laid out in blocks so most balconies inevitably face each other or away from coast), excellent buffet meals, plenty of entertainment / activities laid on for those who want them, nicely mixed guest demographics (age/nationality etc.), helpful & mostly enthusiastic staff. All-inclusive worth considering, we 1/2-boarded but poolside drinks etc. all add up and there's not a vast choice of enticing eateries elsewhere in Punta Prima. Also easy short airport transfer & cheap, hourly buses to Mahon and beyond stop right outside.

Relaxing holiday
Great location, water park 15 mins walk away, small supermarket 10 mins walk away. Car rental opposite the hotel entrance. Staff are multilingual and friendly. Nice swimming pool and great food.

Nice to look at but flawed underneath
Nice hotel, good facilities. Room & balcony not cleaned as you would expect. Toilet roll not replenished so we ran out during the stay. Meals ok, breakfast quite poor although always lot's of choice. Evening good choice not always hot. Big issue with flies, over the food and when at your table. No real direction as a poor check in, self serve in restaurant and no dress code - saw swimming shorts and vests on more than one person. Only found out food outside at latter part of stay. Check in was quick but spent more time answering the phone than dealing with us. Shame because it's a nice hotel but lacking direction (saw no management etc in entire stay)

Great hotel in a great location
We stayed there for a long weekend over the bank holiday. It’s perfectly located in a small town, 3 mins walk to the beach and a few restaurants. Easy to get to and to find parking around the hotel if you rent a car. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Food is ok, the typical buffet. Great space by the pool - there’s actually multiple pools and even though the hotel was busy, there was always space. Overall a great option in Menorca

Super All Inclusive Hotel near beach.
The Occidental is a super friendly hotel. There is all sorts of entertainment and there are many leisure facilities. The food is plentiful and very good. The hotel staff are superb. A great hotel near the beach and close to Mahon (30 minutes by bus). Very good value for money.

lovely stay
Nice hotel updated with refurbishment. Food selection very good and hotel maintained very well every day. Room in block c esterella with balcony facing side of parking but not overlooked and quiet without hearing evening entertainment. Having felt pads on chairs would help to eliminate upstairs furniture scraping, which was rather annoying. Lots of facilities (did not use). As a lone traveller felt very safe and happy to stay there close to beach and few shops and the road train.

Good hotel with small faults
It was a good hotel but we did not like evening entertainment outside until 11.45 pm or the fact there was only one toilet, and that was downstairs, for all the people around the three pools. For my wife and I the hill to the beach was very difficult coming back up to the hotel, and the nice beach did not have any sunbeds or brollies, not good for the elderly

Great stay in mid to late September
We had a very nice 8 day stay. Great for a quiet holiday.The staff were very professional, the hotel was well maintained and the service was faultless. Parking was a bit of a race for the nearest spots unless you paid the 5 euros per day in the hotel car park. The Location is quiet, but there are bars and a nice beach in a short walk and a lot of nice bays within a short drive. The hotel has 3 good bars where we always got served easily. The pool areas were kept clean and tidy and had ample sunbeds. The buffet was fantastic with a really hard working team in there. The bar staff were efficient and friendly and did the right thing without prompting, so when I highlighted a dirty brandy glass, the drink was changed immediately and an "extra" shot was given free without prompting by way of an apology. The evening show acts were not always of great quality which you might expect on a small island towards the end of the season , but were delivered with passion by the resort team. The rooms are slightly noisy with thin walls. Most residents respected being quiet around the residential blocks, but you could hear TVs, Showers and Snoring coming from other rooms

If you are used to the Caribbean and the all inclusive resorts there then you'll be disappointed with this resort. There were some exceptional staff who were very helpful. The resort was clean and same with the room. The facilities were few and the resort was very small. The most disappointing thing was that the safety box, the pool towels, and even the iron had a Deposit you had to pay. It was nice to do it once but not again.

Great for families, ideal for couples
Lovely hotel, friendly staff, room was great had a superior corner room so plenty of space. Can't fault the hotel but as a couple we booked on the fact it was close to airport and had adult pools. The adult pool area was full of screaming kids every day. No where on the grounds to escape children. So this is a hotel if you don't mind surrounded by children constantly. Location is good with several restaurants nearby.

Nice hotel in quiet surroundings
The staff at this hotel are outstanding in that they are always pleasant and helpful. We found the room to be adequate for our needs but the balcony at 3rd floor has a solid barrier obstructing any view when seated. There are plenty of sunbeds around the pools and the outside areas are always clean and tidy. We didn't use many of the facilities but were there if needed e.g. entertainment,spa,gym etc.

Great hotel in a superb location.
Superb hotel which was run efficiently and the cleanliness was spotless. Food was of a high standard and a great choice of everything. Rooms were adequate in size and very modern. Great little resort a 2 minute stroll away with several restaurants and shops. Would highly recommend this hotel if you want a break away from the high rise resorts and big bustling towns and cities.

Fabulous family hotel
This hotel was a fabulous find. Yes, the room was quite small and the walls are paper thin, but this was of little consequence. Travelling with my 8 year old, this hotel exceeded our expectations. Beautifully laid out in blocks, you do not feel that the hotel is as large as it actually is. Maintenance of grounds was excellent and plenty of loungers at pool areas. Food was excellent and always hot, not sure what some other reviews are on about. Evening entertainment needs to improve but I really cannot fault the work of the entertainment team. We have had an amazing time and by the number of repeat guests we met, many others have similar experiences. Lovely mix of Eurpoean nations particularly Italian and no Russians!!

We just needed an affordable place to stay while exploring Menorca's beaches and for the Barcelo met that need. It's primarily geared towards family vacation, not for an "older" couple like us showing up without children. They offered virtually round-the-clock entertainment, with music playing until around 11ish every night. We didn't mind, but it may not be everyone's cup of tea. Our biggest gripe was the food, but we're very spoiled, so I didn't include that in my rating. Overall a great place to stay.

Superb!
We stayed on a HB basis in a large family room: essentially two rooms, each with en-suite, flat screen tv and a balcony. We were on the first floor, building 7, with nice view to the swimming pools but not too close that it was noisy. The room decor and furniture was modern and clean, the showers were excellent and the ac system worked very effectively. The beds were made daily and towels were changed daily as well. The swimming pools were nice and clean, as were all of the hotel grounds. We spent most of our time at the kids swimming pool, which was busy at certain times of the day but rather quiet at others. We almost always managed to find sun beds and a parasol on arrival or shortly after. The dining room was nicely decorated and air conditioned, though we often sat outside, under the canopies, and in the evening there was often a lovely breeze coming from the sea. There was a decent choice of food at both breakfast and dinner; we do not eat meat but there was a good selection of vegetarian food and fish at dinner time, including a good selection of salads and fresh fruit. The food wasn't outstanding but it was fresh, kept warm where necessary and mostly tasty. The choice and standard of deserts was high for a 4* hotel. The entertainment team was great, including some truly outstanding evening shows. This hotel exceeded our expectations - with beautiful grounds, great facilities and flawless service we had outstanding value for money and a truly wonderful family holiday.

Good but with limitations
If your looking for a quiet relaxing holiday then .........................don't go here. Overall everything about the hotel is OK but the problem is the number of young children who run around all day and all night, uncontrolled with no supervision or regard for other guest's from their mainly French and Italian parents. There are no adult only area's - the pools are small, shallow and full of kids - entertainment seemed to be aimed at French and Italian families which means that if you are over 12 you won't enjoy it. Food is average, plenty of it but bland and cooked with zero passion or flair,very cheap ingredients, most of the vegetables are either done to death or from a tin, sometimes it is difficult to actually find something you want to eat. The dining room is very large but wherever you sit you will dine to the continuous sound of screaming babies and children. The bars are good with plenty of choice, staff fast and friendly. The hotel lobby bar and terrace is the best place to go as it is a little smarter than the pool bar. The feature Italian restaurant is not worth the effort of going - poor food on a par with the main restaurant but with less children. The management seem to be more interested in removing stray cats rather than trying to control rowdy and very drunk French football fans who, like their children seemed to be able to do whatever they wanted. Overall if you have a young family you may enjoy it but if you want to relax this is not the place.

Been at this hotel 5 times now and it's a great place to stay, don't go if you are looking for a quiet time by the pool as there are lots of kids, and it does tend to be noisy, but doesn't bother us. The food is excellent and it's very cleAn, the spa is fantastic.

Good hotel for families
Three generations stayed here, the family room with a linked bedroom for the kids was ideal, while Grandma & Grandad were in a separate block, close enough to babysit on occasion but far enough to get a good nights sleep. The rooms were fine, but I would have liked tea making facilities in the room, and I've never stayed in an hotel which charges for a key to the room safe. The rooms were cleaned daily, plenty of clean towels were provided. We stayed on a half board basis, the food choices were excellent, after a big breakfast no one wanted much for lunch. Dinner was always very good. The water play area, the pools and bars were spotless, the staff were always helpful, especially with the children. I didn't use the spa - maybe next time?
