Great views almost salvage Far View Lodge

Posted Oct 23, 2014
Pros: The views, staff & the proximity to the sights & trails in Mesa Verde. The drive there passes view points for stunning vistas.
Cons: Better Insulation between rooms! New carpets & curtains, decent bedding! Making sunset views more easily accessible from the terrace!
Location: Navajo cliff dwellings (Check seasonal accessibility & book ahead). Hike the trails. Valley of the Ancients, Manchos, Durango & Aztec Navajo site.
Despite being beyond check in time of 3pm, our room wasn't ready. There was little apology, no facilities to safe store luggage meanwhile & no recognition of the impact this had on our precious vacation day- we would of planned our day differently basically! The walls are so thin between rooms you can hear adjacent occupant's conversations & when very late arrivals checked in, they were not allocated rooms away from existing guests resulting in a disturbed night. We were compensated with a free breakfast which was appreciated. The place needs upgrading! Carpets are sticky, curtains moth-eaten, pillows lumpy & the synthetic eider & blankets slide off the bed! The views are fantastic (not all rooms have uninterrupted views though) staff & waiters make the place & the food in the bar is good.

Most rooms with a view

Posted Oct 20, 2014
Pros: Restaurant no TVs in the room
Cons: Cell phone coverage. Better treatment of Expedia bookings
Location: Mesa Verde park
We stayed with a group of 12 couples. All couples that booked through the hotel got a room with a great view. Reservations through Expedia got the short end of the stick.

Wonderful time

Posted Oct 16, 2014
Pros: We loved the food in the restaurant. Delicious, different and great service.
Cons: The bathrooms in the lobby needed more attention. Your lodge is too nice to have bathrooms in that shape.
Our drive through the ups and downs of the road were exciting. Arriving at the lodge was peaceful and lovely. It was all that we were looking for. A quiet room with balcony to sit and enjoy what came our way. The rooms were awesome. plenty of room for us and our son. Beds were warm and very comfy. I loved having a coffee maker for that first cup in the morning before you have to shower. Thank you for making our stay memorable.

Great location but don't expect luxury

Posted Oct 15, 2014
Pros: I liked the location, the comfortable (fairly hard) bed, proximity to the Metate Room dining and little lounge above, the WiFi and the little balcony.
Cons: Metate Room disappointed - too many spicy things, choices a little TOO gourmet, pricey, too busy - 40 min.wait for table & then pork was raw.
Location: Go on balcony outside lounge above Metate for view. Go to Far View Ruins - close to Lodge but have to look for them, as sign on one side of road only.
The best part about staying here is the location. I was glad I stayed in the park rather than in Cortez, although the food choices in early Oct. were quite limited in the park. As to the hotel, yes, it's rustic and dated, but the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was nice. No, there's no TV (only in the lounge above Metate Room) but you wouldn't want one anyway with the paper thin walls. We heard our neighbor sneeze, which tells you how much you can hear! I didn't get cell phone reception (Sprint) but that's not unusual for that whole area. At least there was a phone in the room, which made me feel better in case there was a need to make or receive calls.

Right in park

The location is great. Mile marker 15 off the national park entry road is really an accurate address. It being right near the park was very convenient. Just note rooms don't have a tv

A Beautiful Hotel in an exciting location

Posted Oct 14, 2014
Location: There are no other options in the Mesa Verde park and being located at such a high altitude and nearer the attractions made the accommodation special.
I was pleasantly surprised by the experience and quality of what far View offered. Rooms are quiet, basic and comfortable and perfectly acceptable and good value. However the real surprise was the quality of the dining room where service was great and the quality and style of the food quite unique and of a high standard. I was pleased to stay two nights so that I could sample more of the menu.

Stunning Views!

Posted Sep 30, 2014
Pros: The views were wonderful and so was the food.
Cons: Black out curtains would cut down on light from other rooms. The walls are thin--we heard toilets running, travelers talking, & elk bugling all nite.
Location: Mesa Verde is a must-see.
We stayed one night and were pleased to have our room upgraded to one that had fabulous, virtually unimpeded views. We loved the patio and the beds and pillows were very comfortable.

We enjoyed the restaurant and the food they prepared was super. The drinks on the balcony overlooking the surrounding view of the mesa's was spectacular.

Convienent inside Mesa Verde

Posted Sep 6, 2014
Pros: View from room balcony and location in the park
Cons: Cleaner rooms, some much needed room upgrades
Location: 4 corners, Hovenweep, and local town
I was excited to stay at FarView Lodge inside Mesa Verde. Very dissapointing at our room. First, our room looked clean, the towels were fresh, the sheets were fresh, but the rugs were not vacuumed thoroughly. There was dust and lint around the edges. Our bathroom had gnats! Along the edge of the shower stall looked like a water leak...the knats were all along there! Plus, the light fixture in the b.r had a small opening that when using it at night you ran the risk of a moth falling on your head! Happened 3 times to me personally. The room was sparce, and thats not an issue. Just for the price of the room, would have expected more cleanliness. There is no continental breakfast, the cafeteria was alacarte. And very expensive for basic food items. Best thing about stay was view from balcony and location but drove into Cortez for all our meals after our only dinner and breakfast at Far View cafeteria. Would I stay there again? Maybe for one, possibly 2 nights, but not for our full vacation time. But I would stop and buy food at Walmart and keep in room fridge. (yes, they did have one, which was nice to have)
