“Great location”
Staying in Mesa Verde park was important to us in order to maximize our time and the Far View is perfectly located for that. The lodge has an appropriately rustic decor but is very comfortable. We were in one of the single story buildings behind the main office/restaurant but still had wide vistas to look out on. The Metate restaurant has excellent food, though pricey. But that's usually the case in the national parks. We were going to try the cafeteria style Far View Terrace restaurant one night for dinner, but the choices were unappealing. The menu is the same for lunch and dinner and was fine for lunch. It did not seem too popular for dinner. After checking it out, we went back to the Metate restaurant. Most guests seemed to be eating in the Metate Room. Being right in the park meant that we could get out on the early morning ranger trip without getting up at the break of dawn. Plus we had the entire afternoon to do some hiking and see some of the other ruins. Mesa Verde is a fascinating area to visit.
“Convenient and comfortable to Cliff Palace”
Staying at Far Lodge was great. We were more interested in seeing the Ancestral Puebloans ruins and heritage than driving 35 minutesinto and out of the park to another hotel. Currently the main road in is under construction which increases the drive into and out of the park. The rooms were cool in the heat of the day. While the rooms do not have tvs or internet, both are available in the lodge. We also took our laptop and some dvds to watch movies when we too tired at night to read our books. Each room has a small balcony, a refrigerator and a clock radio. The towels were plentiful and fluffy. The ice machine wasn't turned on yet but the front desk was happy to get some ice for our cooler each day. Our waitress at the restaurant in the Far Lodge was friendly, knowledgeable on the food. I had the trout and my husband had the salmon for dinner. We each enjoyed our meals. The wine was good as was the margarita I had.
“impressive spot to see vistas of 4 states”
The hotel is a lovely spot in which to enjoy all the beauty of Mesa Verde National Park
“hotel in Mesa Verde National Monument”
The hotel sits atop a mesa with windows that maximize the views. Location a minute from the National Park Visitor Center means that you can start seeing the Park promptly, before the crowds arrive. The restaurant and lounge also have great views. Breakfast is at an independent facility, a cafeteria, with so-so quality and relatively high prices. I would definitely return to the hotel for future trips to Mesa Verde.
“High Mesa Paradise”
The accommodations are dated but well maintained and nostalgic of simpler times. The restaurant is superb and the bar and adjoining balcony delightful and the views stunning. The panoramic view from the room's balcony extends into three adjoining states (New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah.)! And, of course the location, close to some of the most beautiful and amazing ancient ruins in the southwest is stunning. We loved it!
“Who needs Air Conditioning!”
Great location in Mesa Verde Natl Park, central to the sites. After the long winding drive up to Far View, I was so glad I didn't have to do it twice a day for our stay! Weather was beautiful, 50's - high 70's. We certainly didn't miss the air conditioning. Having a small refrigerator was wonderful. Only disappointment was that the shower stall (no tub)was awfully cramped. Also, they don't want food left out in the rooms to cut down on insects.
“It's the view -- of course!”
Far View Lodge is nothing fancy, but what a delight. No noise of the daily grind. Take a break away from everything electronic and put those earbuds away!! This is a slice back in time. Granted -- a little more attention and on-going upgrades might be in line. However...my friend and I absolutely appreciated what we had in our room -- a view like no other. Go to Far View Lodge if you need a respite.
“Perfect setting and very economical!”
Amazing unobstructive views from every room!!! Never saw a more beautiful sunset with double rainbows! The upscale restaurant has delicious food and spectacular views! Very reasonably priced!
“Wonderful park experience”
It was wonderful to stay in the park. After everyone left it was quiet and peaceful. The balcony off of the room was large and comfortable. We saw deer right below. The restaurants were great. The was even a ranger program in the main lodge next door.
“Right in the Park”
We loved staying in the park. The room is basic - no TV - but perfect. We have everything that we needed and got to look out over the mesa from our balcony. The food in the cafeteria is just as it sounds - cafeteria food - but that doesn't necessarily mean bad. My children loved the custom made yogurt parfait in the morning and we shared the cooked breakfast for a good value. The best part, by far, was staying in the park and being the last people to wander Spruce Tree House in the evening and first people on the Long House tour the next morning.
