“What a view”

This charming hotel is close to everything. The view is magnificent overlooking the harbor and mountain lights. Have a glass of wine on your terrace and savor this beautiful place. Staff was very friendly and anxious to please. I would highly recommend staying here when in Taormina. The pool is delightful and the hotel's restaurant was good also.

“Great, quiet location in Taormina”

We loved the hotel, which is well located in Taormina, just 200 meters from the south end of the Corso Umberto. The hotel is not glitzy or spectacular, but a very nice place to stay. Breakfast was very good -- no one seems to eat there for other meals. The staff were very helpful and attentive.

“Nice hotel in Taormina”

The whole town is on a hillside and the Mediterranee is near the top of the hill - five minutes walk to the main drag but it's uphill on the way back. The car park is small but adequate - the staff keep all car keys and multi-park guest cars; it works well. Simple but adequate breakfast. Beautiful views of Etna and the bay from the huge terrace outside our room. Nice open air pool. Taormina hotels are all relatively expensive by Sicilian standards but this was good value. The town is unlike anywhere else in the island - the only place you hear lots of American and British accents, and cafe prices are higher, but it's very pretty and well worth a visit.

“Good location and friendly service”

We had a room with a superb view opening out onto a big terrace. 10 minutes walk at most into Taormina ( but steep back!!) which is ideal for cruising Corsa Umberto for morning coffee or evening drinks. Pool at top very good though not for young or insecure swimmers as gets deep very quickly. Great space and cool places to sit although round the pool could get crowded in peak summer. As we were there last week of May shuttle to sister hotel on beach not running. However cable car and walk Ok and between four of us a cab back was really cheap. Beach good and nice terrace for lunch where the pasta was extremely good. Hotel really helpful as our luggage had been lost. Rang up airlines etc and this useful as could communicate in Italian. Although rooms could be updated (the lamps so kitch) comfortable and regularly cleaned and tidied. Although shower looked antiquated worked well. Hotel easily met our needs for a quick.late getaway.

“Exceptional, unforgettable views”

Hotel boasts exceptional views over the bay and Mount Etna! Continental breakfast is served on a beautiful balcony bordered with blooming lush pink flowers. There is a pool at the back, which looked good but we did not use, as it is closed by 7pm (though the sun is still high in the sky). Staff were pleasant and generally helpful all with excellent English. The hotel is well located to explore Taormina, Giardini Naxos, the Greek Theatre, Etna and the beautiful beaches of Mazzaro. Yes, there are steep steps to reach the hotel from the main town, but they are not arduous and given the entire town is perched on a cliff, there really is nowhere that is not uphill. Relatively easy to reach the bus station and cable car and hotel provides a map with tips and recommended sites to see. Hotel was clean and good value for money - a great base from which to explore the beautiful, albeit relatively expensive town of Taormina.

“We Would Definitely Return”

The Hotel Mediterranee is located close to the centre of Taormina - easily reached on foot - and has fantastic views of Mount Etna and the sea. The rooms are modest but perfectly clean and good-sized balconies (just be sure to book a room with a sea view). There is a no-frills, retro feel to it and the bed wasn't the most comfortable but we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and would definitely go back. The pool - despite an apparent lack of chlorine - was a great amenity to have but the water was rather cold! The breakfast buffet was average but the staff were very friendly and overall it was good value for money. The 60's fixtures and fittings will amuse you or remind you of your childhood - depending on your age!

“Good position for reasonable price”

If decor isn't an issue for you (it wasn't for us) then this hotel is fine. Yes, it's dated, so perhaps the 4 stars is questionable, but it's clean and everything works and the price is reasonable by Taormina standards. The position is good, being only 5 minutes uphill from Corso Umberto (everything in Taormina is 'up' or 'down' hill!) and the views from the terraces and pool are stunning (like hills, stunning views are part of daily life in Taormina). Our group was in 3 rooms, and 2 of these had huge terraces (again, with views) - great for early evening drinks. We found the staff extremely friendly & helpful, especially with regard to our missing luggage (how's this for weird: our group booked separately, travelled from 2 different airports, with different airlines and at different times, and we all arrived to find that both airlines had left our luggage in the UK - what are the odds on that - spooky!(it all arrived 36 hours later)). The use of the beach at the sister hotel was a great bonus - although it's slightly further away, this was much nicer than the beaches at Mazzaro & Isola Bella. The air-con doesn't switch on until June, although in late May it would have been useful on a couple of evenings. Didn't use the restaurant for dinner as there are countless restaurants in town. Thoroughly good time was had by all. Would stay here again.

“Best View in Taormina”

The hotel's 1960s architecture doesn't sit very well in Taormina but all rooms have the most spectacular views down the coast and of Etna. Stunning. A bit generous to give it 4 stars - three and a half would be nearer the mark. A breathless climb up from the Corso Umberto, so any thoughts of passion need acting upon before going out for dinner - as you certainly won't have the energy by the time you get back!

“Not entirely happy”

The staff were helpful and attentive, except the restaurant waiters, but the Hotel Mediteranee is in desparate need of a major refit. It was built in 1960 and clearly very little has been done to keep it up to date or in line with the competition. Ideal for admirers of 1960's period fixtures and fittings. Shame there was a charge for the towels on the hotel's beach at the Lido. Great view of the island and of Mt Etna from the room's balcony.

“Not Impressed by Far!”

The hotel was extremly old and needed to be renovated 30 years ago. However, the view from the pool was breathtaking. The beach is not "at the hotel" it is 10 miles away via a shuttle bus in which the hotel makes you pay for.

Area:

Taormina, Italy: A balcony setting on Mount Tauro with a sweeping view of Sicily’s coastline and Mount Etna gives Taormina its lasting appeal. It is Sicily’s only truly international resort, much-favoured by celebrities. The old quarter’s steep, narrow alleys are filled with window boxes and painted pottery, and best explored on foot. Main sights are the classical remains and Renaissance palaces. The Greco-Roman theatre is still used for concerts and festivals.
