NIce but with quite a few faults

Posted May 23, 2015
Best thing is the amazing views of Mount Etna. Rooms good size, very clean,. Very few staff and on the whole pretty so so. One exception a lady at reception called Adriana who was brilliant. Note that the location is on a very steep hilltop, and it takes an effort to get up to shops and restaurants. Pool area was clean but not big enough. OUstide bar was non functional. It could take quite a while to be given towels and mattresses, and the poolside service was virtually non existant. Wifi did not work properly in the room we had) . Also hotel has all sorts of silly rules which make stay less pleasant ( no bringing any food or drink in from other outlets, pool area having to be vacated by 6.00pm, ; key must be handed in to reception every time you go out etc...etc...) Food is mediocre at best. Breakfast just about OK but service a little surly and offerings are limited and unimaginative. Did not try the restaurant for dinner as there was only a choifce of around 5 items. I was told the a la carte menu was not available as the chef did not have it ready as it was early in the season. All in all, I did not consider this hotel to be 4 star. OK as a base but you would not want to spend a lot of time there, and also ( unless you have a car0 getting to and from Taormina can be a problem, if you want to get back anytimne after 8.30pm.

Nice hotel, wonderful views and great staff

Posted Apr 20, 2015
Pros: The friendly staff, the exceptional views and a nice relaxing atmosphere
Cons: The shower in the bathroom and tea and coffee facilities in the room could be better
Location: Top of a mountain, quiet, great views and Castelmola is pretty but very quiet in the evening. The hotel and Taormina have loads of eating options.
We stayed in the Villa Sonia in April 2015 for a 30th wedding anniversary and had a wonderful time in a good hotel with superb staff. It was out of summer season so comments need to reflect that it was very quiet and we could not say how it would be staying there at capacity. Our standard room had a superb view over the valleys to Etna and a small balcony with space for a couple of chairs - it was very good value. It was comfortable with a large, firm bed. The only negative comments would be that the shower was a bit cheap and tea and coffee making facilities would have been a plus. The hotel itself was nicely fitted out with quirky antiques and a pleasant pool area with Etna views. There is a sauna and jacuzzi but they looked out of use at that time of year. The restaurant area was spacious and breakfast was pleasant without being anything exceptional. Part of the reason for that could have been that there were fewer guests. From the moment we arrived the staff could not have been more helpful. They made a snack when we came quite late in the evening and when we thought we had lost our wallet went to great pains to ring different premises and police stations on our behalf. We also returned one day to find complimentary flowers and strawberries in the room. You really felt as if they were looking out for you.

Schöne Lage weit ab von allem, Zimmer schmutzig

Posted Apr 8, 2015

Stunning view of Mount Etna at Breakfast :)

Posted Jan 31, 2015
Pros: At the hotel, staff were lovely; great frothy coffee, and the hotel was generally clean, and well located.
Cons: The almond croissants were very popular at breakfast time, you have to be quick when they're out of the oven :)
Location: Castelmara has some excellent bruschetta, and we enjoyed the bizarre little cafe in the coach car park opposite. Taormina and cablecar to beach: fab
The first room we were given was dark and had a view of a wall. We asked to change rooms and were given a slightly lighter room with a view of a courtyard and the road. As we weren't going to be in the room much, and we didn't want to pay extra for the Etna view, this suited our needs. The view from the back of the hotel is spectacular, and if you hang out by the pool, it's lovely.

Pros: Service des Teams.
Cons: mehr Abwechslung am Frühstücksbuffet
Location: Taormina, Castelmola, Messina, Aetna

Posted Nov 2, 2014 on Hotels.com
Morgenmaden kunne have været bedre, brødet synes tørt. Værelset kunne have været mere rent, der var bla støv langs kanter i badeværelset.

Dejligt udsigtshotel

Posted Oct 31, 2014 on Hotels.com
Herligt hotel.

very nice, charming and excellent staff

The pictures do not do this place justice. The hotel has excellent service from a very serviceminded concierge. The room 511 was overlooking the beautiful mountains and direct views over Etna. the shuttle is free and the rooms are basic but clean and with a mini bar and wifi that unfortunately didnt work inside this room most of the time. The pool area is spectacular. If you want peace and quiet, good local service and excellent views then this is your choice.

Great Hotel - Lovely Staff - Amazing Views!

Posted Oct 23, 2014
Pros: The staff, views, and location were amazing.
Cons: Nothing really
Location: The village just below has lots of cafes and restaurants. A bit touristy but fun!
My Wife and I stayed at Villa Sofia as part of our ongoing honeymoon trip. The staff was fantastic, the views from the hotel are breath taking and the rooms are great. Originally we were given a small room and the AC did not seem to be working. However the management moved us to a room that was twice the size and had a working AC with incredible views. The drive up to the hotel is not for the faint-hearted but totally worth it. I would definitely recommend the Villa Sonia to anyone visiting the area!

God service
