old school charmPosted Aug 27, 2014
Pros: location and views
Cons: effective air conditioning in the rooms and modernising the bathroom
Location: Brilliant restaurants near by (especially Nettuno and Rossi de Vino), 5 minutes to the main square, 10 minutes to the amphitheatre...
we stayed at the san domenico for three nights, the first night was in room 379 which in the morning was next to the bottle collection (at 6am) and an industrial airconditioning unit which was terribly noisy. We moved the next morning to a "monk room" in the old part of the hotel, which though small, was beautifully quiet. The hotel location in Taormina was brilliant and the views, breathtaking.....really helpful late check out was a bonus...

Hotel enjoys a brilliant location.Posted Aug 4, 2014
Pros: We liked the service, staff, location, evening drinks in the courtyard with live music and excellent breakfasts.
Cons: The bedroom needed updating. There should be free wifi in bedrooms as well as public spaces.
Location: Wonderful views, immediate walking access to very attractive historical village. The Greek Amphitheatre, the English garden, Etna, beaches.
The hotel was originally an old monastery and has retained plenty of character. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the public areas are very nice. Our room had a fantastic view of the bay, gardens and Mount Etna, although the room itself was quite small with tired decor. However, our real criticism is that drinks and food were exceptionally expensive.

Understated luxuryPosted Jul 15, 2014
Cons: Dreadful loo paper!
Location: Fabulous location. Taormina is an elegant resort. Wonderful ancient Greek amphitheatre nearby.
Beautiful hotel and gardens with amazing views. Extremely courteous, friendly staff. Photographs on the website don't do it justice. Food excellent.

Bliss in SicilyPosted May 14, 2014 on Hotels.com
We were so fortunate to have this as our last stay before returning home. It was something to remember - beautiful, historic, elegant and staff very accommodating. Beds were the best of our two week visit and it was difficult to leave the hotel to explore Taormina!

Needs Young BloodPosted Nov 14, 2013
There is no question this hotel is situated in a beautiful location overlooking the ocean. But one gets to feeling it needs some youthful energy. Overall it seems to appeal to a very antiquated concept of luxury. For instance they charge for wifi in your room as if it were some spectacular new invention, which is completely ridiculous. At this point in time it's like charging for flushing a toilet. In general the establishment could use an update for the next generation of patrons. Also the breakfast buffet seems to get ransacked without replenishment.

A Grand Palace!Posted Nov 6, 2013
Pros: The rooms, the service, the location, in fact everything!
Cons: They are difficult to reach by phone.
Location: The location is convenient to the main shopping area of Taormina and restaurants abound nearby.
This hotel is really a Palace, the reception rooms are grand with high ceilings and appropriate furnishings. All the Gardens are lovely and there is always something new to discover round every corner and down every set of stairs of this sprawling property. Everyone is charming and they go the extra mile to make sure you are happy. Sitting outside for breakfast was such a treat.

San Domenico Palace Hotel in TaorminaPosted Oct 20, 2013
Location: The hotel's location is walking distance to not only shopping but sightseeing.
From the first step into this old monastery type hotel you feel pampered and special. It is one of the most romantic and perfect place you will ever visit. The location is perfect for adults. Do not bring children there, it's too far from the beach and the pool area is not "kids friendly". Also you have to be able to walk many steps to get to the pool.
