“Not overly impressed”

Hotel staff wasnt very friendly. They messed up one of my room service orders, refused to refund the charges. Internet was very slow and spotty. Breakfast was good but not great. This hotel is in a good location, and has a decent price, just don't expect too much.

“Convenient location and excellent service”

The Emporio is a relatively compact but very well run hotel. It has a nice looking lobby with tables and chairs for meetings, excellent security, good food at the restaurant upstairs and the cafe downstairs, and an extremely attentive staff. The small business center has two working computers and a printer and is usually staffed. The gym is quite small and will serve the traveler who can get by with weight lifting and very light cardio. I stay there when the price is right, and I don't mind the small quarters. If space is important to you, be sure to pay more for a larger room. The compact and less expensive rooms are fine with me, and I appreciate the amenities. Oddly enough, the chocolates that they leave for turn-down services come to mind as a notable plus. The bath products are also pretty good if you need them. If you stay during a Sunday, you'll be right on Reforma which turns into a no-vehicular-traffic ciclopista for walkers and bikers in the morning. All in all, a great place!

“Excellent value, moderate price, beautiful architecture”

I will definitely go back to the Emporio! Instead of a modern non-descript facade of glass, steel, or concrete, you get a renovated grand old hotel with a 19th-century facade, in a safe neighborhood close to the major hopping areas of town. Service was impeccable, my reservation was in order. The cafe next to the hotel entrance has class, looks very nice, and serves a great continental breakfast for 74 pesos ($6.50). The hotel taxi service (private car) is expensive, so it's better to go to the taxi rank, perhaps 300 ft from the hotel entrance, where you will find safe red-and-gold taxis. It cost me 130 pesos ($11) to go to a friend's house with the hotel taxi, and only 50 pesos ($4.30) to come back using a regular taxi. The rooms are a little smaller than at major hotels like Marriott etc., but very comfortable. And this hotel offers free WiFi with routers on each floor, while the Marriott Reforma down the street makes you pay and has poor signal on the higher floor. By moving from the Marriott, where I was for business, to the Emporio for the leisure part of my stay, I cut down the price in two and I got a nicer experience.

Area recommendations
Stay in the main area of Paseo de la Reforma, or in Polanco, because it's safe, there are many taxis, and good restaurants and hotels. La Zona Rosa is not just the gay 'hood, it is also full of good restaurants. It's located southeast of the Paseo de la Reforma, close to the Angel of Independence, in an area where all streets are named after European cities (Londres, Liverpool, Hanburgo, Niza, etc.)
Getting around
As long as you stay in the main, modern parts of the city, it is a safe place, You'll see a lot of police around, actually. Just don't get into a taxi that's not painted red-and-gold, or isn't a private car arranged by the hotel. The metro is very cheap (3 pesos, or 25c, per trip), clean, safe, but often crowded.
Must see
Visit the main square (Zocalo) including the murals by Diego Rivera inside the National Palace. La Villa de Guadalupe, with its multiple buidings of historical religious importance. The Chapultepec park, with its castle and the Museum of Anthropology. And the Pyramids at Teotihuacan, an hour north of the city, are well worth it. For the Pyramids, the tourist buses will charge you too much money to go there, and you will spend most of the time in stops they arrange to worthless restaurant and tourist junk shops, so if you can handle speaking to Mexican people in Spanish or with gestures, take the subway to the North Autobus station, go to gate 8, buy a ticket for about $3, get on the bus, and an hour later you're there. Buses run every 30 minutes and are comfortable and clean. On the way back, you buy the return ticket from the driver (it's all cash only, so plan to have some change). That way, you can spend hours at the Pyramids, and no junk-shop stops.

“Nice, clean, affordable but small rooms”

I stayed in a Junior Suite. It was clean, pretty, new, but way too SMALL. I can't imagine how small a standard room would be.

“Great Hotel & Great Price!”

It was great! The people are very friendly & helpful, the hotel taxis cost the same (sometimes even less) that the normal taxi. The room was a little bit cramped, but nice and clean. The hotel it's a the center of Mexico City, so the principal sites are just a few blocks away.

Area recommendations
Sites as: Bellas Artes, Correos Nacionales, Café Tacuba (great breakfast, ,must try "buñuelos"), Zócalo (Templo mayor, catedral, palacio de gobierno), & Torre Latinoamericana, just to name a few...
When to go
Go a little before October, because Mexicans are catholic, they begin processions to ask for miracles to the Virgin of Guadalupe, and they cause A LOT of traffic!

“nice hotel in the center of the city”

A nice hotel right in the center of everything! Hotel Emporio Reforma is in walking distance to La Zona Rosa. Hotel had good food and very nice people who are more than willing to make your stay comfortable. The basic rooms are bit small, but the location is well worth it. The front desk can definitely aid in helping out scheduling the tours around the city. we will definitely go back sometime.

Area recommendations
La Zona Rosa, Polanco, Zocalo.....Shopping at El Centro Commercial Santa Fe....Taking the tours to the Pyramids, La Basilica de Guadalupe, Taxco, Xochimilco, and el Museo de Frida.....go and eat at Taconto!

“Great location, excellent service for less money.”

We had a great stay at this hotel, you can not beat the location, several points of interest are within walking distance, pretty safe area. The restaurant is good too, but you might want to eat at the nearby restaurants to get the real Mexican food experience. Great for business trips but also good if you are traveling with kids. The rooms were clean and the beds really comfortable. I will recommend this hotel to my family and friends. I really liked the small hotel feel.

Area recommendations
I would recommend staying at a hotel in Ave. Paseo de la Reforma because is a great location and safe part of the city.
When to go
Mexico City is better in April before the rainy season.
Family-friendly activities
Chapultepec zoo, Papalote museo del nino.

“Beautiful Mexico City - Beautiful Hotel - Incredible History”

Mexico City is a beautiful city that reminded me of Paris. The green trees on Av. Reforma are truly beautiful. Security is not a problem. Great tours to see the old and the new. Amazing!

Area recommendations
Stay close to Reforma Avenue because it is close to everything and gives easy access to everything else. You can go to the old city and the new city all on Reforma Avenue. The restaurants are great.
