I just spent 10 days in Mexico City and it was probably the best experience of my life. The city is so exciting and there is always something to do! The Galeria Plaza Reforma was the PERFECT hotel. The staff is so friendly - you never pass by anyone without them saying "Buenos dias" or asking how you are doing. Also, almost every single person I ran into at the hotel spoke English pretty well. I can speak Spanish but after a day of researching in the archives (the purpose of my visit) it was so nice to come "home" to somewhere where I didn't have to work so hard to communicate. The location is excellent. The Paseo de la Reforma, which is only a block away, is an amazing place to stroll and find your next meal or terrace to have a beer. There are police on every corner on this street so it feels extremely safe. And I will add that in general I felt safe the whole time I was in Mexico City so if you are hesitant to visit because of the alleged "danger", DO NOT let that stop you from visiting. The people in Mexico are so nice and so helpful; like any big city, you need to be aware of your surroundings, but there is NO reason to be afraid to visit here. I was a female traveling with my mom but also by myself at times and I felt completely safe. The hotel is very close to the Insurgentes metro station (about a 5 min walk) which will connect you to anywhere in Mexico City for 5 pesos. I will be back in Mexico City soon and will definitely stay here again!
