Unassuming Art Deco treasurePosted Feb 28, 2015
Cons: It would be nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms
Location: In the heart of Miami Beach. Great people watching
Had a great stay here. Nice little Japanese tapas bar as part of the complex with equally nice cocktail list.

Motel style rooms for 400 bucks a nightPosted Feb 26, 2015
Pros: Close to the beach and Ocean Drive.
Cons: Speed up the WIFI Change the AC system. Very annoying.
I stayed recently for 5 nights. I expected more for what i paid. Stayed in room 207, very loud early in the morning. (Garbage trucks) We could listen to the conversations from the guests in the next room. WiFi was complimetery but very very slow. Staff was nice and helpfull.

Great Location, Disappointing Hotel.Posted Feb 24, 2015
Pros: location and size of room.
Cons: add a dresser. increase closet space. add shelves to bathroom. add robes. replace carpet in stairwell to rooms.
The Essex is very conveniently located in Central South Beach. Check in was relatively simple and the staff was friendly. We upgraded our room to a King Suite. The suite was located on the first floor and had a decent living area with a couch and a couple of extra chairs. The walk to the room was "old school" and kind of dirty. However, our BIG disappointment came from the tiny closet and the lack of drawers and shelves. We literally had no place to put most of our clothes as there is NO dresser in the room. The closet was barely big enough to put one of our suitcases and the hanging bar was only around 2 1/2 - 3ft wide and had just enough room for only our hanging clothes with a tiny shelf above it. Further, there were no shelves or drawers in the bathroom for our toiletries or for clothes. Even the night stands were tiny and had no drawers. So, we lived out of our suitcases for 5 days...not fun. We had friends in a regular room and they did not have a dresser either. Some people don't unpack so this may not be an issue. We also called the front desk to request robes and they didn't have any. The safe in our room did not work either. On a positive note: The location is great as it is one block from the beach and it's sister property is the Clevelander, which is fun. The bed was comfortable and the fridge and coffee maker (keurig) worked nicely. The bathtub was oversized and nice as well. Would not stay here again though.

Charming boutique hotelPosted Feb 10, 2015
Pros: Exceptionally attentive staff; art deco lobby, especially lovely at night when lit by candles; good location
Cons: when air conditioning comes on, too loud
Location: around corner from: beach, restaurants, stores. One block the other way is the bus on Washington St. that goes almost everywhere in S. Beach.
Great location: quiet, yet just around the corner from all "the action" of Ocean Drive, the heart of South Beach. Amazing, pleasant, helpful staff at any hour of any day.

Cosy hotel with great location.Posted Feb 10, 2015
Cons: A small refrigerator or minibar would be great, as well as in room safe. Also the air conditioning was way too loud.
Pleasant small hotel with great location, very close to the beach and other attractions of South Beach. Hotel staff is courteous and attentive. They also provide beach towels and complimentary water at the front desk but you have to request. We did not use the Clevelander facilities, so can't rate that. I would stay there again.
