The 4-story, 40-room Hotel Astor is located 3 blocks from the beach, and from the trendy cafés and nightclubs of South Beach.
This South Beach hotel was originally built in 1936 and retains many original Art Deco architectural features in the lobby. In fact, the hotel is one of the stops on the neighborhood's Art Deco tour. Of special note is a wall panel next to the check-in counter made of Vitrolite, a special type of pigmented structural glass.
The hotel has a side-garden patio bar and dining area with a soothing waterfall wall. Astor Club Restaurant is located on the lower level and looks out on the patio area.
A total renovation of this property was completed in May 2008.

The Hotel Astor has 40 guestrooms. The furniture is custom-designed and French-milled, and room decor evokes Art Deco ocean liner staterooms, complete with frosted glass and faux portholes. Walls are heavily insulated.

“South Beach Blah”
While the rate that we received from Expedia made the hotel worth the stay, the experience did not. From the moment we arrived the valets were no where to be found, the front desk was more interested in selling us tours than taking care of us, the deadlock remained broken after numerous requests to have it fixed, the toilet ran forever without manual intervention, the maid service never brought towels, an armoire in the next room fell and almost hurt the tenants because it was not secured, and the room was beyond spartan. We enjoyed ourselves because we made the best of the trip, but we will not be staying in this "boutique" again.
“Paul Talbot”
Hotel was nice until the water heater went out and There was no hot water after the first 2 days of my 6 night stay. They said they were working on it but still no water for showers or shaving the am that I left. Completely unacceptable but it was pre-paid so I could do nothing. I would have found an other hotel.
“Good location, very friendly reception guys - but that's it”
Stayed two times at the Astor. The Hotel is relatively close to the beach and in the neighbourhood there are lots of cool restaurants, bars and clubs are only few blocks away so it is good if don't want to spend lots of time in the hotel. Reception guys were always very helpful and friendly. Room size and beds were ok, bath rooms were not. In both rooms we stayed shower heads were furred up and both were not perfectly cleaned (I don't like to find too many of other people's hairs). While rooms were generally a little loud, we had to turn off AC at night as it was extremely noisy (i've seen lots of hotels, but never had such a loud AC). Overall the Astor is an ok place to stay, especially if you like to walk around SOBE and don't plan to spend too much time at the hotel. In that case I would rather spend little bit more and go to places like the Delano, Raleigh, etc.
“No internet service provided”
Very unpleasant staying because the internet problems, It was promissed to be solve since the first day of our staying.
“Astor under renovation”
This cool boutique hotel is three blocks from the ocean and is best known for it's bar and restaurant scene, unfortunately they were closed and the whole place was under renovation, room was adequate but needed maintenance and light bulbs . The sister property has a pool but it's more of a pond (4x10x6ft). Don't let the rate fool you there is an extra $15 a day room charge-read the small print and also factor another $25 a day parking. Worked for our stay, complained about all renovation work and had resort fee deducted.
“Will never go back”
The hotel is very far from being what is represented in the photos and in the web site. Even if I have always been pretty much in agreement with the star and the customer ratings reported by Expedia for all other hotels I visited, I don't understand how Astor hotel got its 3.5 stars and a relatively high guest rating. The general conditions of the hotel were just above the ones of a low end motel and several signs of aging were apparent. What is worst, however, is that they gave me a room that was located outside the main rooms' area, inside the stairs' trunk. As I complained, they offered me a second room that, however, was pretty much the same as the previous one: still in the stairs but on an other floor. For this reason I refused to spend the night in the hotel and I'm still trying to get my money back. I recognize that the two rooms that they offered were probably the last ones they had available. Still, the fact that they actually proposed those rooms tells a lot about either their quality standards or their professionality.
“Leaking ceiling”
Everything was fine with our stay until the CEILING STARTED LEAKING in the bathroom. It took maintenence over an hour to come to our room. We were called by the front desk a few minutes after the maintenence guy left. The front desk said the head engineer had to come out to take a look. So we went about our day returning later that evening. Upon our return I stopped by the front desk to be sure it was taken care of. WELL IT WASN'T. George the concierge(OUTSTANDING EMPLOYEE) called the engineer at hm. Only to find out the leak couldnt be fixed and we needed to move to another rm. The engineer never bothered to tell anyone he just went hm like it didn't matter. So had I not stopped to check we wouldn't have known. Let's say NO!! Check out time bye bye. The manager was very apologetic and deducted the resort fee of $15. per night. Thanks Sir, I won't be back.
“A few hiccups”
My hubby and I were soooo excited for our vacation after having our son. We needed a getaway!!! The rooms in the Astor were very pleasing to the eye but there were little things that made out to be super nerve racking! Our FIRST room was very cute, as we had seen in the photos on Expedia BUT we weren't able to use the advertised WIFI in our room. We had some work to complete and had to do so in the lobby of the hotel. Eventually, the staff suggested trying another room. We were given the Astor's BEST room. Well, this BEST room smelled like someones mildewed basement. the decor was cute but the stench was so strong that my hubby and I went across the street and purchased candles and a bottle of Febreeze. That STILL DIDN'T WORK! And the WIFI still didn't work in our 1st floor FUNKBOX!!! So out third and final room was a bit better but by this time we were tried of moving so a cardboard box and a mojito would have done us right. Oh yeah, STILL no WIFI in the 3rd room. Miami was great BUT the hotel really put a damper on our planned getaway! :-(
“Not What It Appears”
Pros- The room was Clean, Sun Light, Basic Cons-.(no refrig,no microwave, two blow dryers because one was broken, no outside line,TV Mounted Crazy!) Broken Tiles in Bathroom Small Elevator 5 People Max. Shuttle to Airport Make 24 hour Reservation even though you inform them you are staying one night flying out in less than 24hrs.. One Maid On Duty with Child running Through Hallways Oh Last Thing SAFE DidNot WORK!!!!! Had to Carry Valuables around with you on the Streets of Miami..... The Hotel is misleading Items in the rooms were "Just for show" basic items Did Not Work! I would Not Return !
“very spacious”
I stayed here for memorial weekend with a group of girlfriends and it was enough space to accommodate all 5 of us comfortably. The room was huge and so was the bathroom. The only downside was the shower, the idea is cute and trendy but by the time your done the whole bathroom floor is wet. Besides that the hotel is clean and the location is great and the price was a bargain!
