Beautiful property, but room choice is key.Posted Mar 1, 2015
This was our second stay at the Newport. You'll love the property, lobby, pool and beach. Beautiful beach right next to the pier and within walking distance of Haulover Beach. The Palm trees on the beach are a very unique and nice touch. Our previos stay was in a balcony room overlooking the beach. This time we chose a "City View" (westside of the property) room because we intended to spend basically all of our time out of the room. This was a terrible mistake. The room was HUGE which was nice. The bed was comfortable and all was clean. However, it was in serious need of updating. Couch was worn out. Blinds were straight out of the 70's. Had two tube TVs. This is the first hotel I have stayed in in at least six years with tube TVs. Looking in other rooms, it seems most have been updated, but this one hadn't been touched since Carter was President. Also, the noise from Collins Ave is very annoying. Waaaaay too much horn blowing by Miami residents. Motorcycles, delivery trucks and exotic cars lend to a constant and pervasive source of too much noise. Recommendation to Newport - if you get around to updating these rooms, put the king bed inside the dividing wall, rather than outside. Would make sleeping much more enjoyable. Basically, flip flop the living and sleeping areas. All told, we will be back and would recommend. The restaurant was not very good and very overpriced. But there are plenty of nice places to walk to. The resort is very conveniently located.

Ok hotel is a nice locationPosted Feb 25, 2015
Pros: The location to the beach was exceptional! Unfortunately, it was really cold while we were there, but I can see the appeal for the location.
Cons: I recommend getting a concierge that knows a little about the area and that could be at least a little bit helpful for people coming from out of town.
Location: Not much to do nearby except go to the beach. There did not seem to be much of a nightlife or many restaurants that were walking distance.
We booked a night in this hotel mainly because of the location to the beach, which was wonderful. The hotel is just ok: -- the line to check in was long -- not sure why, it only took a couple minutes to actually check in -- we had to pay $20 to self park or $25 to valet -- we went with the valet , which did not take long and was pretty easy -- the lobby was freezing, we were shivering the entire time we had to wait in line -- the concierge was not helpful. She just pushed the tour and you get a $100 voucher, even after we told her we were only there for one night. When we asked for things to do close by, she recommended shopping at Marshals... No problem with Marshals, that's just not where I wanna shop when I am on vacay. We asked about the hotel restaurant and she told us about the previous night's special and the next night's special....hmmm, not helpful. -- the hotel restaurant was really good, the food was delicious, the drink were yummy (a little pricey, but not out of this world and they were GOOD!), the service was great. The best part of our stay was the restaurant! -- the bed was not very comfy, and the pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable -- we booked a room with a view and had a very nice view of the parking lot... I had read other reviews that said the same thing, but decided to try my luck. Overall, the stay was fine, but I would not stay here again and I would not recommend this place to my friends...it was not horrible, it just was not great.

You do not get a room reserved here.Posted Feb 24, 2015
Pros: It's next to the beach and there is access to a beautiful pier on the ocean.
Cons: Reserving rooms for people that pay for them!
Booked and fully prepaid a getaway over a month in advance at this hotel. Told them we would arrive 2 or 3 am on the day of and required a crib for our child. We were asked to call again the day of to remind them. We did so and were assured there was no problem. We arrived at the hotel and were told that they didn't have a room for us! This hotel overbooks and does not reserve rooms. We had to wait until the early morning for someone to check out and a room to be made. The first day there wasn't a crib ready either. The first day was a total disaster. Only compensation was that they would refund the first day through expedia and we got a free breakfast. They didn't contact expedia. We had to contact expedia and expedia contacted the hotel before we were told by expedia that we would be getting a refund for the first day. We were told later that a similar thing occurred to another resident of this hotel. Besides that, the service was fairly decent. A hotel that doesn't take care of its arriving guests can't be rated well though.

Very old and outdated hotelPosted Feb 23, 2015
The rooms are very outdated. The carpets all throughout the hotel are so old and dirty. The walls and doors are so thin you can not have any privacy. It is a very busy hotel for families and tourists.

Perfect for beach daysPosted Feb 22, 2015
The room was pretty old and a little run down but the pool area and beach access was amazing, they have a peir you can access free of charge with a great restaurant on it as well. The beach is great with awesome swimming and snorkeling near the pier. If your not staying in your room very often it's the perfect place for you.
