“The Best Is Yet To Come”

We really hit the jackpot when we opted to book a room at The James Royal Palm in South Beach Miami. When we made our reservation in early October we knew that they were completing their renovations on the hotel and planned to open that month. To our surprise we showed up on Nov. 10 and were told that they had only opened 3 days prior to our arrival. All the reception staff were extremely welcoming, bright and energetic. I would guess that we were the first guests to christen our room. The decor is minimal but very cool, clever and very tastefully done. All the typical amenities were there in the room with a nod to "green" awareness. Unfortunately we were unable to use the main pool area because the workmen were still there but there was another smaller pool on the second level with a few lounge chairs and some tables. Off the second floor pool is the Florida Cookery restaurant. The service was fine but I think they need a few months to develop a rhythm. The servers were young, attractive and very eager to please us. I have no doubt that the restaurant will be getting outstanding reviews for food and service in no time. The beach area was dotted with fabulous orange umbrellas, which distinguished The James from the stretch of almost all blue umbrellas along the rest of the beach. It was very inviting but we had no time to enjoy it. Next time we will be certain to save time to enjoy the pool and the beach. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and look forward to our next visit.

“Great for a couple get away.”

A nicely updated hotel with a great location within walking distance to everything I wanted to do. There is a $20 resort fee per day but that included the beach chairs and umbrellas that cost $60 next door at the Lowes. Great hotel for couples but probably not for children due to the small pool.

“Awesome hotel but bring your own pillow.”

Pillows were not the best. We even requested better pillows and they were not any better. Everything else was wonderful.

“Great hotel. No interest in environment practices”

The hotel itself is good and clean. Employees are very gentle and make the guests feel relaxed and comfortable. This said, I have one concern, I couldnt find a single sign of interest for the environment. Even the maid didn't know about the word recycling. In this time that's not an amenity or a plus; it's absolutely a must, for everyone in this planet and specially for a hotel.

“Great location/great service”

Location is terrific -- and staff was great, with Peter (one of the concierges -- but all are very nice) being a complete superstar in terms of knowledge, connections and general enthusiasm!

“The Perfect Miami Experience”

We stayed for 5 days at the James. It was a wonderful time and the perfect Miami experience. The pool area is just the right size and a great orientation to the Florida Cookery, the hotel's restaurant. The hotel itself is also very well located geographically within South Beach. Close enough to enjoy the activity of the main drag, Ocean Drive, but far enough away not to hear the music and constant partying if you'd like a quieter evening. Also close to Hispanola Way. The Florida Cookery was wonderful too. We ate breakfast there daily and lunch almost daily. Food and drinks were wonderful each and everyday. Staff is pleasant, friendly, helpful and accessible. The room was clean, spacious and had a great view of the ocean, even with 'partial view.' The lobby bar and the bar upstairs at the Cookery were fun too. The entire hotel had great trend, style, atmosphere etc. but was not pretentious. Would recommend the James completely.

“great place!!!!”

The reason for the 3 rating on comfort was the furniture in the room. Very trendy, not comfortable!!!
