Beautiful ride from/to StLU airports to hide-away.Posted Nov 10, 2013
Pros: No noise! Friendly neighbours. Perfect retrait hide-out. Nature environment, had house to myself which was good, it's not pleasantly shareable really.
Cons: Maintenance/upkeep; airco/fans needed in livingroom; microwave needed; unblock shower drain; get EUnews BVN TV-channels and stronger router for WiFi.
Location: Castries & Souffriere 1.5 hours drive. Route nor roads near Gekko Lodge are sign-posted; no reception at site. Viewpoints, waterfall, Mamiku gardens.
Friendly neighbour alerted owner to come and open up the house (a 10 to 20 min. wait). There were no other guests, which turned out to be very pleasant for me, I had the house almost the whole week to my self. The owner brought a WiFi modem and router to install, unfortunately it did only have livingroom reach and so I could not use internet up to the bed room veranda, which would have been cool, looking out to the palm and banana tree greens. There was a little shop around the corner which had all the daily necessities. The fridge and freezer compartment worked o.k., yet the kitchen gear was not inviting to be used much. Unfortunately no microwave and no restaurants nearby. Trips to the main attractions of St Lucia 1.5 to 2,5 hours away from the lodge was no problem with the rental car from the airport, which worked out fine. I wasn't pleasantly surprised with the late night arrival and (un)announced other guest. The lodge is more like a family house. No reception or full time staff around, there was a lady every two to three days to clean and do the laundry. Guess the place would be great for a group, there are three bedrooms. two bathrooms.
