Villa Mary Elen, Milos - great servicePosted Sep 5, 2011 on Hotels.com
My husband and I really enjoyed our 3-night stay at Villa Mary Elen. The highlights for me included the ocean view, private balcony, spacious and well-equipped apartment-style accommodation, easy parking and above all else, the helpfulness of the owner. Our room was clean and tidy, made up daily and very well-equipped. The bedroom was small but space in the hall and living/kitchen area as well as a private balcony off the bedroom (and a second patio off the kitchen) more than made up for this. It is located on a street with many other hotels, and it is far a quiet area about 10-min walk from restaurants, etc. Two AC's (one in the kitchen/dining and one in the bedrooom) and fully darkening shutters on the glass doors made sleeping (including sleeping in) very comfortable. Some minor complaints I will mention (but which really didn't taint our stay) included some minor ant issues in the kitchen (likely b/c we were on the ground floor), and a strong smell of mildew which emanated from only one cupboard in the kitchen (under the sink - we avoided keeping it open at all). There was no visible mould but the source of the smell could have been hidden beneath/behind the cupboards or around the pipes somewhere... The owner was extremely helpful and very approachable, and communicated easily in English. He made a point of offering any help/advice we might need, and we made use of his directions and advice on several occasions. When we checked in, he provided a map and some excellent dinner recommendations. On our second day we were pleased to discover a complimentary bottle of wine and some snacks in our apartment: a really lovely surprise. I would definitely recommend this hotel to couples who are staying on Milos, particularly those who plan on renting a car and exploring the island; it is easy to drive from Pollonia to any of the car-accessible beaches, towns and sights.
